The Charger is a musclecar ! 4 doors actually sell better,but yes they should have some adds for the Challenger !! But the Charger is a real good looking car !! Best looking 4 door by far !!
Now where is the SRT-8 Charger/Challenger Commercial ,remember Dodge we are never satisfied we need more real good adds like this !!

Why would they want a commercial for the Challenger? The car sells itself and sales certainly have not dropped off. How many Viper commercials have you seen? How many Camaro or Mustang commercials? The bottom line is, you don’t waste your advertising budget on something that’s selling itself. The challenger is a niche car and most people wouldn’t buy it for A to B commuting. Those that do have them know what that car is all about, and didn’t just happen upon it during a visit to the dealership looking for their next family car. This car sells itself.

Actually Challenger sales for January 2010 were down 39% from Jan 2009. Adds for the Charger/Challenger/Viper(ACR?) will attract customers. They might not buy a Challenger, but they might get something else.

HEMIhead, and 440….You guys are absolutely right on all accounts. The Charger SRT and R/T are certainly muscle cars…all you have to do is listen to the rumble, and drive them to know that. 4 door vehicles have been outselling 2drs for decades by a wide margin. The last few Charger ads are AWESOME !….Thanks Dodge for getting the word out on the best 4 doors on the market today….Mopar or no car !!!

Challenger sales have dropped off substantially. The car’s sales are also behind the Camaro and Mustang. I also see a good deal of mustang commercials, and the camaro appears in the background of at least 2 GM commercials, it was also in 2 2 hour commercials called Transformers 1 and 2. Also worth mentioning is the massive amount of name recognition both the Mustang and Camaro have. . . Challenger doesn’t have that.
The charger nameplate is more popular than the challenger has ever been, and the car has been on the roads for 5 years now. There’s not too many people who don’t know what the new 4 door Charger is.

Ralph Gilles was interviewed a little while back, and during the discussion of advertising he gave an example of the success in sales of the Dodge Journey in Canada. (Journey is Canada’s #1 crossover right now in sales). He wondered what had happened to sales in the U.S. and started doing some internal research on why it was so popular in Canada. He said he found that Chrysler Canada had a way more agressive advertising campaign for the Journey. So he said by following this example, they would move on being more agressive in advertising in the U.S. for the Journey, and sales would pick up. So we can kind of use this as an example of how they (Chrysler) looks at advertising for their vehicles. Why would they push this car for sales say, over the Challenger? Well I figure they think this car is going to be more of a likely choice for customers who are looking for that A to B vehicle. A mass seller, so to speak. I notice online they have the challenger ads everywhere.
As for the Charger, I don’t care if you call it a “muscle car” or not. I Love my 2006 R/T Daytona. I really love all the “Thumbs Up” people give me when I take it for a drive. If its not a muscle car, then I don’t know what it is. It certainly roars like a beast, and begs you to burn rubber. Its Awesome.
By the way RLD, I stopped by my local “Five Star” Dodge dealer today to buy a new Journey, and couldn’t even get a salesperson to come out on the lot to talk to me. My wife and I looked around at the cars on the lot for about 20 mins before we finally said, “Were outta here!” Got tired of looking, and the salesperson was looking at us through the window while sitting in a chair with his legs stretched out. And we were the only people there! Can’t even get you guys to take our money. Also, I thought you were finished with that ugly silver center console/dash bezzle treatment in the cars. Yuck! Man does that stuff make those cars look cheapo. Really turned me off from looking at it. Thought that was a past problem with the Caliber? Paint that thing some other color, that silver is damn cheap looking. Did you get it from Revell? I’ll try and buy a car from you again maybe later in the week.

HEMIhead, the same thing happened to me. The sales people used to be too aggressive at the Dodge dealerships. Now they think you aren’t going to buy anything because the economy is so bad that they don’t even come to check and see. At any rate, my wife thought the interior on the Journey looked cheap as well so she made me go to the GMC dealer next door since no one was helping us at the Dodge dealer. The salesman at the GMC dealer came out and informed us that if we needed any help, just let him know and that he would go ahead and let us drive one anyhow just to see if it suited our needs. My God, we got inside and the interior on the Acadia is beautiful and it has so many standard options and Onstar that it makes your head spin. My wife had to have it so we ended up purchasing our first GM product. I have to say it rides beautifully and handles great. The engineers and designers need to purchase one and disect it if they ever want to compete in the SUV market. It killed me not to buy a Chrysler product, however, they dropped the Durango and Aspen so we had no choice. The Journey is just too small and cheap looking inside and out. The minivans are just too boxy, the 2002 Voyager we had looked so much better and was much more aerodynamic (at least it looked like it was). Normally I would of told her no on purchasing anything but a Dodge, but since Dodge has purposely ignored me, by not painting their Challengers sublime and by not making them with black interiors, etc. I told her to go for it. There is a point where you the customer can only take so much and moves on. Now that I have waited so long for the Challenger and still can’t get it the way I want it, I am starting to doubt whether I still want it or not. I know my neighbor wanted a sublime Challenger, however, his car finally died so he purchased a black Camaro with red stripes. He gave me a ride in it and it is fast and really nice inside. Dodge has released nothing new lately so I have given up hope. They can’t even make brochures for the 2010 cars and we are in February already.

I hear you, sublime. I think I am going to pass on the Journey. Its just too damn cheap looking. I ain’t willing to spend 30K + to dress that thing up with options just to make it look appealing. I tell you how crazy it is, I was actually thinking while I was looking inside the journey (from outside through the window, because I couldn’t get nobody to help me), that if I took that bezel off at home I could paint it. Then common sense finally clicked in and I said to myself, there’s no GD way I am paying 22K + for a vehicle and then going home to straighten it out. I’ll gladly pay 15K for it because that’s all its worth. The front door edges on some of them had paint chipped off down to the primer. Couldn’t believe it! Not even off the lot yet! Dodge must be giving them the thinnist, watered down coat of paint possible, just enough to be delivered to the dealer before it starts coming off. I know my charger has the thinnist paint job I have ever seen on a car. Just not good enough. What’s a Mopar guy supposed to do? You just have no options? And you have no argument.
What happened to the seats in the caravan? They look like they are about 2″ thick? My 2001 GC has way better seats and I bet you they are a lot more comfortable. I know people complained about Daimler and how they were cheapening the brand by those Revell interiors and minimalistic options packages, but by God, you can’t get any worse than what those vehicles are like today. I expected a lot more from Dodge by now, but I think its just hopeless. I looked at the caliber, grand caravan, avenger, sebring, and journey, and they all have those cheap looking interiors. Just totally horrible. The 300, which is useless for my needs looked not bad. I might take a look again at the Grand Caravan, if I return to the dealership, but I am done with the Journey. The Pacifica was a way better vehicle, and way nicer looking.
If Dodge is changing their ways, then they had better hurry up, because time is running out. If a mopar loyalist such as myself has to twist his own arm and grind his own teeth to buy one of these vehicles, than you definately have a problem. A regular Joe will just quickly cross the street to another manufacturer. Good Luck

A sedan, I believe. And as I have said before, not a bad one, possibly the best sedan out there (I really don’t do any research on sedans so I can’t honestly say).
That said, you can’t change history. You can’t just all of the sudden say “no no no, muscle cars are 4 doors now”. I mean really, what does that make my 1969 charger, a sports car? (I think of smaller performance cars when I think “sports car”)
Your personal reasons for buying the car are just that, your reasons. They have nothing to do with what a muscle car is or why people buy them. I understand that people want a car with more room, ease of access etc, but that does not mean that putting the name of a muscle car on a conveniant 4 door suddenly makes it a muscle car (no matter how it sounds or even how fast it is).
I think this car would have made a perfect Coronet. I’ll bet that they would have sold just as well or better, AND they could have made a 2 door charger (and maybe even a challeger too) and they would have sold a boat load of them to guys like me (and there quite a few).
All that said, perhaps you guys are correct about the advertising, the charger needs it, the challenger speaks for itself. Yup, you could be right. Hadn’t thought of it that way.

Well Moparman, I think your ’69 charger is definately a keeper and a muscle car. I love that car.
And yes, you could call a muscle car a two door, but I think back to the days of 2.2 Liters and a two door charger in the ’80′s and I certainly wouldn’t call that thing a muscle car. I’d rather have my muscle sedan anyday than those things. The only thing I liked back then was those omni GLH’s, but they were 4 doors also. The shelby dodge daytonas were nice 2 doors too.
What I am wondering is why somebody would come up with the idea of putting a wing on the back of a ram, making it useless to try and get anything in the box, and calling that a daytona.
Now that was strange.

HEMIhead, you got that right. A truck where the wing isn’t high enough to load anything in the back of a truck was really stupid. They should have made it as high as the 1969 Daytona wing. I thought they did a better job with the Rumble Bee and the limited edition GTX truck that came in plum crazy, sublime, and orange. Just make the new Charger look like a 1969 and paint the Challenger sublime and make a T/A version. How da@n difficult is that? The new Dodge leadership has no commonsense and will eventually bankrupt the company again. Then Fiat will have the dealer network to sell its cars. That has got to be the reason for all of this madness or they are the slowest moving company on the face of the earth.

Yeah, I definately agree with you guys on that. I about crashed my 69 the first time I saw one of those “winged trucks” on the road. I did a double take and my wife yelled at me and swerved back into my lane, then pulled a u-turn and tried to find that truck and figure out what it was and if it was factory or someone’s personal crazy idea.
(of course my wife didn’t see it and claimed I was just seeing things, until a few months later when one of our neighbors bought one!)
Oh, and I don’t know too many people who would have called the ’80s era cars chargers either. No offense, but two wrongs don’t make a right. That’s like saying, hey chrysler “bleeped” up before, so it’s ok if they do it again. I’m beating a dead horse here, but well, when they came out with the ’99 concept, people were excited because, even though it was a 4 door, it was made to look like a two door (I think the handles were hidden even, but don’t quote me on that), and to look like a ’60s/’70s era charger (body lines, markings, gas cap, tailend etc) and because it didn’t look like the thing from the ’80s.
It’s kinda like Battlestar Galactica. Most real fans of the show (the real show, 1978) don’t consider galactica 1980 to be part of the show at all. Some things are better left forgotten. And just like dodge, Sci-Fi channel attempted to make a new BSG that was the same name but something different, and it sucked.
Until I was 12 years old, the family car was a 1965 chevy panel (with the two upright doors on the back. It was two tone light blue and white. It had a 350 engine, which of course came in many muscle cars back in the day. A few times when my dad wasn’t looking, my brother openned the old girl up a bit, and it would indeed get up and go. It was not the slowest vehicle on the raod. But we never would have claimed it to be a race car or a muscle car. It was still the family rig, no matter who or what it could pass on the freeway.

Hemihead ,Chrysler is Canada’s number 2 selling brand for many, many years..(except for 2009 half of the year they had no inventory) but so far in January they are again,number 2 in sales.Dont know why they are slow sellers in the U.S…?..
I didnt mind the Ram Daytona, the dealers sold those things as fast as they got them in..The Ram SRT was a beast and I miss those.Dodge needs to have more limited edition trucks again,along with cars.
Moparman ,not all 69 Chargers are musclecars,even when new , a 6cyl and 318,383 2bbl were not considered musclecars!! Actually the 69 Charger R/T was called a supercar !! but over time they called them musclecars,the Challenger is a pony car again over time they called them musclecars.Even a 69 Charger was not considered a musclecar unless it had a 383 magnum,440 magnum or 426 Hemi !! A mid-high 15 second 1/4 mile 318-2bbl just was not a musclecar.A new 4 door Charger is considered a musclecar because of its V-8 Hemi engines and 13 second 1/4 mile performance and its heritage,and being a rear drive Hemicar !!.A new 6 cyl Charger/Challenger/Camaro/Mustang is not a musclecar,due to its 6cyl engine..the 80′s Charger was not a musclecar,but the Turbo did blow away V-8 Mustangs and Camaro’s of the 80′s.They considered the Charger and Daytona a sportscar,and they did pretty good,good handling,good looking cars especially the Daytona..Yes,I owned a Shelby Charger ,Daytona Shelby and Turbo-Z reliable,fun cars,a few tricks they can run as good as a new SRT-8 Charger/Challenger,I did race them at our local track on Friday nights a few times,along with my 2 late 60′s 440 TNT Chrysler 300′s and 73 440 Challenger (70 R/T look a like)though I still own the Challenger and 300′s I wish I would of kept a Daytona.
I think Dodge should heavily advertise all of their vehicles.Challenger should also be heavily advertised, it makes a good a-b car,yes the 3.5 Challenger would be a good commuter,as I do see a few as daily drivers,and why not !! You need to advertise all of your products,then you may be as successful in the U.S.A as in Canada !!

The car is COOL, the add is good, BUT if you have her get in the car and say to him ” Can you handle this”, would be better! The car has that charge to it, give the commercial a charge.

Hello All!!
I seen the ad on a local TV station in FL and I loved it!!!!!!!!!!! That is the type of ads Dodges needs to put out and push their great cars (IE: Charger and Challenger)..
I took my my 2008 Chally to Daytona for Dinner with my sweetheart the other night and right beside me a Lamaborgdoi pulled up beside me and trying to start something…… It just shows how the Challenger has the love and respect of the gear heads of this world….. I wished Dodge would go out and push it show the average person how world class this car is from the plant in Brampton the design studio in MI and so forth!!!!!! A great story that needs to be told….

Well, don’t get me wrong, I love Mopars but I have not been impressed by a Dodge commercial in a long time. I thought the Super Bowl ad was a huge letdown! Maybe I’d gotten my hopes up to high since I had been reading about it beforehand and was watching for it, I don’t know, but I was nearly to the kitchen for another beer before I even realized that it was the Dodge ad that I was waiting to see. W a a a a a y too much bored-looking guys and w a a a a a a y too little Charger in it for me. I think 45 seconds of the one minute ad was taken up by mens bored-looking faces!
The ONLY Chrysler commercial that has impressed me was the one that started with the guy in the Airflow; then went to the 50′s pickup, wing car, Charger, etc. That was cool but I’ve seen it only ONE time! Where’d it go?
I think GM, Ford, and Toyota have much better ads on TV. I like the Howie Long ads, I like the Chevy truck ads that are over-layed with the “this is our country” song of John Mellencamp, the Mike Rowe ads are good and the Toyota ads that feature the deep-voiced guy narrating a Tundra doing amazing feats! Why can’t Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram do something like those? Is it the cost?

Having had a Charger SRT and now a Challenger SRT in its place, I would call the Charger a ‘muscular car’ without a doubt; no slouch and nothing to be made fun of… reserving the muscle car moniker for one with two doors, a manual transmission and an ass-kicking V8.
Regarding commercials: many, perhaps most people nowadays can hardly form an intelligent opinion on anything without the help of advertisers and pundits telling them what to think, what to buy and what to say. Advertising is a finely honed science that has been evolving since the first TV station went on the air. It works. Chrysler should use it. Fire for effect.
About these commercials… of the many comments I’ve heard from people who have expressed their likes or dislikes for the themes or the dialog or the actors, I haven’t heard anyone criticize the car. Some would have liked to have seen the Challenger, but the Charger is extremely effective in that role for the non-afficianodo. The car is just cool and it goes like four kinds of hell and people want that. Love it or hate it, people are talking about it and the car is still the star.

I personally like the adds,they talk abit then a LOUD ENGINE SOUND,SCREECHING TIRES !! Better than any Lame Ford,GM,Toyota adds..That my friend is how an add is to be done,saying a 25 mpg car and then showing its monster personality !! Awesome !! MOPAR RULES !!

Hello all!!!
In todays WALL STREET JOURNAL there is a great ad for Chrysler… It is in the Weekend Section and it a “double truck” (two pages together)… It is tell what makes Mopar products great i.e.: styling,power at a great price… Many of us on the blog know it but allot of regular people do not……
I hope this is a start of the Chrysler revival.
