Hi everyone! It’s been a great couple of weeks with my new Challenger. I know a lot of folks are still waiting for theirs to arrive, so I thought I’d take a minute to introduce myself and detail some of the highlights of my buying process. This has been a great time and, while it was an anxious time on my part to wait for my Chally to show up, it was well worth it. What a vehicle…it’s a cliche to say it’s a dream car, but I don’t know how else to describe it. This car is the end result of a lot of passion on the part of the designers and engineers, most of which I’ll never meet in person to thank. For what it’s worth, let me say I’m glad to enjoy the fruits of that labor, let me tell you.

Here’s some highlights and some photos from the journey over at the Flickr group. More to come!

–JM

12/3/07 — 9am. I get a call that orders are being accepted. I chose Silver and all 3 options.

2/6/08 — 10am My wife and I are at the Chicago Auto Show in the second row (directly behind Bob Nardelli) for the unveiling of the Challenger. Bob Nardelli and Jim Press both autograph a copy of my vehicle order. (I’ll put a pic of this up soon…) I spoke with someone from Dodge marketing about obtaining a specific badge number. He took my info and said he would look into it.

4/1/08. I received a call from Mark Mallie regarding my car. The production process would not allow for me to receive a specific badge, but I would be receiving a Silver Challenger!

4/17-6/3/08 C-D-D1-D-D1-D-D1-D-D1-D-D1… the frustration of what is a normal part of the build process of a new model. Mark Mallie was very helpful (and patient) through all of this and kept me as informed as possible regarding the Challenger.

4/18 — I received an email with the link to the Challenger Order Tracking website. What a cool tool to track your car!

6/5/08 — 8H289582 goes to framing

6/13/08 — She is finished and headed to Windsor for stripes and a badge (#1901)

6/20/08 — She arrives in Detroit at Jefferson Connor for transport.

6/22/08 — Transport company employee tells me at church that she is on a truck headed to the dealership. I can’t wait…

6/23/08 — My silver Challenger arrives at Cassens and Sons Chrysler Dodge at 8:30am. It’s been heaven ever since! This girl turns more heads than I can believe. Can’t wait to break her in…

Great choice in Silver. Same here, and I could not be happier with the choice of both the color and the product.

Dodge SRT team, you’ve done good as we would say here in Tejas (Texas that is).

Two 08 Dodge Challengers showed up in Manheim, PA this week. #2954 in silver with 6 miles on it, and #4181 in orange with 20 miles on it. Both cars are at 2 different wholesalers. Rumor has it that the best Manheim Auto Auction price thus far was $51,000 for one that had 6 miles on it.
See photo below, just another car in Manheim, no crowds, no big deal. Both cars may run through the auction on Thursday 7/24, but that is only a guess.

Hey, my club put on our annual all mopar car show yesterday here in Salem Oregon, and the dealership who sponsors the show (a chrysler dealership, not a dodge one!) had a black 2008 challenger there on display! It looked great, definately better in person, WOW. Found out it’s the second one they got, the first already sold, it was orange.

Also found out that they are charging/asking 18,000.00 over sticker, for a total price of 59,000.00 (and change). Yikes.

It was pretty cool having it at our show, cause it was the tenth anniversary of our car show. All day, there was only one time that I looked and didn’t see anyone next to it, then as I was looking more people walked up. It was an attention getter all day. Hopefully the mark-up will come down to reality for the ’09’s when they get to our neck of the woods.

Let me share how my experience went:

June 23,2007 - Dealer put me on a list (#2)
    Dec. 3, 2007 - Dealer wants $20k over MSRP

    Dec. 3, 2007 - present - Dealer doesn’t see me, my Cirrus, Ram 1500, or Gr.Cherokee.

Thank you for the response. Very cool Chally nonetheless. I selected Silver as well due to the rarity of the color for the 6400 products produced for 08. As I understand it, about 640 in Silver were produced even adding to the collectability of the model. Further, I opted for an 08′ without the roof and the mygig assuming that if there were any failures, the two items would be the first to have a defect of some type.

Thanks again. Sweet ride. With patience, my 08 Chally should arrive this week, 25th, to San Antonio Texas.

    hey hawgsrule,
when I ordered on December 3, I only had one choice.. I am too lazy to keep a black car looking good, and my wife, (the world’s most understanding woman) said “NO ORANGE”… that left silver as my only choice and I have to say I am very pleased with how it looks…

  14. On Jul 19, 2008 at 6:51PM, TAZ Allen posted:

    Dear hawgsrule,
Reason I pick silver was, before I order I check on RDL to see what colors were doing good. The Hemi Orange was going like wildfire and the black was doing ok and silver there was nothing really on the blog. I thought that putting a silver on order would increase my chances of getting the car. All the colors looked good to me I liked the body style and the chance of getting a classic, collectable car out of the box is what interest me.

I hope I answer your question. What ever color you get, this is one sweet ride!!!!!!!! Enjoy!!!

MPG on the highway was 21-23.3 (one person,ac on,and I got some fuel in NC that was 100% gasoline, no ethanol.

Dodge should provide driving suites to owners of the first 6400 so we can be “official ambassadors” for Dodge…

Welcome

Back in the day, folks referred to holidays as "Red Letter Days" because of their color on calendars. They were times of excitement, tradition and celebration. Well, that's how we feel about the New Dodge and frankly, we've always had a special place in our hearts for red.
