Two words: Challenger Ships!

It’s surprising when you think about it. A little over two years ago we
were looking at a Challenger concept during a cold January in Detroit at
the North American International Auto Show. After a quick feasibility
study, we announced on July 1, 2006 that we would build the Challenger.

Now satisfaction! The 2008 Challenger is shipping to a dealer near you! We
began to ship vehicles today with nearly 1,000 vehicles built and a
whole bunch more coming behind it. Plans are to finish 2008 Challenger
production by the first part of July. So keep tracking yours. It’s coming soon.

I’m anxious to hear from all of the religious posters to the Red Letter
Dodge Blog on how well you like your new Challenger when it arrives. We
do read your blog posts and attempt to react where we can so keep the
comments flowing… and enjoy your Challengers out on the open road!

Travis: B5 Blue is a mid-year color because Hemi Orange will have to be removed to make room for it. Tentative plans are for that transition to occur in January.

In general,I guess the true test on these becoming a standard vehicle like the others on the lots or available will be when we here radio and see TV ads for them. I am leaning towards an R/T with the raised wing spoiler. But the SRT8 is also a possibility. I am sure the R/Ts will be modified to a similar horsepower once the start hitting the streets in decent numbers.

Bob, I am not far from Cleveland. If NY treats me bad, I would have no problem geting it from Cleveland if you are in that area. Thanks again for the info Bob.

You are not building suspense anymore, you are buidling frustration. You have quality control for the cars; maybe you need to QC the process in which people are given information and do a reality check on the shipping process.

I bet people saw it as they drove by and had to stop in and see it for themselves and ask a million questions, while you are trying desperately to work all the new gadgets on the Challenger, and drive it. And I do agree Bob Frederick has been incredible giving us information. I called the 800 customer service number to check mine this morning and they said D1 and a ship date of the 14th. I’m going to guess thats not right.

From what I’ve read, people that have seen one, say it’s beautiful, and those that have taken delivery say they happier than they ever thought with the car. So the wait continues, and I’m sure it’s well worth it.

When the order is punched in, it goes to “BA” Status which means order received.

Then it will move to “BX” if it’s a good order available for schedule. If not it could go to many different “B” status codes but I’ll cover two: “BE” which is edit error, in which a coding error is present and must be corrected before being considered for schedule. “BG” which means it passed edit but can’t be considered for scheduling.(For a variety of reasons like scheduled out).

A BX order can then move to “C” Status which is tentative schedule.

Next is “D1″ which is Gatelined which means the plant has sequenced the order for production and an estimated ship date is assigned.

“J” is unit passed final inspection

“JB” in the case of Challenger, unit is shipped to Upfit Center(For stripe).

“KZ” means unit released by plant and Invoiced.

“KZR” Vehicle within a few days of Dealer. Don’t usually see this code though.

From “KZ” it usually takes a few days to a week or so to get to dealer. Geographic distance of Dealership from plant can impact time of delivery.

dash plaque numbers are being done with the stripes. this is when the car is considered completely finished. after the car receives stripes, they attach the dash plaque. VIN has nothing to do with the actual number on the plaque. so, until you are in JB status or better, you have no way of knowing what number you are getting.

If you have your Challenger now or it was shipped prior to today and they have not shipped any since Tuesday you should have it checked before you leave the dealer. Here is Email that someone sent me asking about the issue and here my responce email.

Can you find out what was the fix? I had to wait until late yesterday to pick mine up because they said they had to replace a fuse. If it is a pinch point I wonder how a new fuse what address this issue?

First
Ask them what fuse they replaced was it the one that factory removes during shipping that keeps the car in limp mode and only lets it go 20MPH? This is in case someone steel’’s the car it will only go 20MPH

Second
Ask them if the fuse was missing that is in the car to replace the limp mode fuse. The reason you want to ask this question is if a fuse was blown in another area they probably replaced it with the limp mode fuse because it was the only available fuse in the car. and it is probably the wrong fuse for what was blown

Third
Ask them if the would not shift into gear when the shifter was moved. If that is the case the harness was cut.

Here is the fix and you need your dealer to do this ASAP anyway.
When the emergency brake is all of the way down a piece of the mechanism under the dash on the left side by the A frame smashes the harness and cuts into the wire that operates the shifter. Before you let the dealer fix this you need to climb under your driver side dash and set the Emergency brake and see if it hitting the harness. If it is cut I would demand a new harness. If it is not cut the fix is to wrap the harness 2 two times over with a thick Mastic. Mastic is a sticky tape that prevents cuts and punchers if applied correctly. Then you push the harness back up through the slot. and you are done. They say it is a 5 min fix.

Update on the Approximately 800 Challengers that are on a shipping hold. The problem has been found and the Dodge engineers have a fix for the cars. The issue is a possible pinch point in the wiring harness that would short and cause the fuse to blow that operates the shifter for the automatic transmission. I would like to thank the Dodge quality team and engineers for catching and fixing this issue before more Challengers hit the streets. There are Approximately 500 cars at Windsor in storage and 300 at the Brampton Plant in storage and receiving the fix. The Plant has had the modification in place since 6/4 pm shift. Car’s will probably begin shipping tonight.

I heard a rumor that there was someone trying to cancel the delivery of my my official Legendary Danny O’Doul SRT Edition.
This is impossible, of course, because The Legendary Danny O’Doul was never admitted to the Bellevue Psychiatric Ward as reprorted by one of the minor posters on this board.

I believe I will should be taking delivery of my Official Danny O’Doul SRT8 Edition during this summer. Complete with Special flat Green paint and Gold sparkle racing stripes on hood, roof and rear, paddle shifters and Gold sparkle leather seats.

for everyone else patiently waiting, the tracker is a few days behind. the tracker said i was in D1 until today. in reality, my car was in framing and paint on 30 May and trim on 31 may. additionally, they must have worked out the quality control issues because they said my car is still scheduled to ship out on 3 june for final stripes.

A million thanks to Len at Fullerton Dodge. All other dealerships (The big ones) just took my name and number and never called. One even told me it would be impossible for me to get because I’m a “nobody”. But thank god for the smaller dealerships. I was treated like a friend. So never doubt the small guys, me included. My challenger would be for shows, cruising & occasional weekends.
Any info I can get on my Challenger status from Dodge would be greatly appreciated.

It may not be as throughty as the R/T, but keep in mind…back in ‘06 the 6.1L Challenger concept was the ONLY car to be allowed to turn its engine on and rev the beans of out it. I remember that sound, and that’s what prompted the ‘08 SRT8 500 sale.

You can have the old school Mopar car which sounds like the R/T or you can have the NEW MOPAR…the sound of an SRT8.

Kewl SRT: Look at the unofficial tracker; there is no link between VIN and build date. I have a 289 car, and it is in D1. There are 300 series that are already built.
Here is what I’ve heard, Dodge will get 1 car to every dealer in the near future. Then they will work on getting the additional allocations out after that. So, if you aren’t first, you’ve got to wait a little longer. The posting says they have built about 1000 so far. They are shooting for 230 per day. If they reach that goal, it will still take atleast 24 days to build the remaining 5400. I’ve heard they’re only around 100-150 cars per day right now, so they’ll be lucky to have them done by July.
And one more bit, my car is set to ship on 2 June. However, it is estimated to be at the dealership on 11 June.
Bottom line, great news that they are leaving the plant, but most of us still have some time to wait.

Hey Dodge, Was it or is it a thought to put a 5 speed manual in with the SE model. An automatic and a V6 will not do the car right. Even the SE body looks good. This way a it will get better MPG, better pricing and keep it sporty. Just a thought….

It’s racing heritage badge should emulate it’s character on the road…like the old school Challenger.

Anyone know about the tracker…I still have a ship date of 2 June via Customer Service and my dealer, but the tracker still says confirmation. If the tracker is correct, that leaves 4 days for framing, paint, trim, QC, and striping.
