Production Begins on ’08s, Track Bob’s Car for Fun

May 7, 2008 at 1:41PM RLD

Hey everyone,

So production has begun up in Brampton, Ontario and we’re just waiting for the first 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s to roll over the line in the next several days. It’s going to take some time to get everyone’s completed, so hang in there. We hope to have some thoughts from the Plant Manager up there for you on RLD pretty soon, along with a video, a press release or two and other related stuff.

In the meantime, for those who aren’t at D1 status yet…take a minute and plug the information of the RLD Dealer Contributor into the ‘08 Challenger production tracker and watch as Bob’s car gets moving along through the factory. Thanks to Bob for letting us all peek behind the curtain on his car! (His delivery estimate is May 15, BTW) It’s a pretty cool little tracking site, so take a minute to poke around (be careful with his last name…there’s a “II” at the end. It only works if you include those.)

Man Bob, looks like your car is moving along on its build , ( JUST LIKE MINE ) no where. I have been D1 to D and back to D1 for ever and I still can not track it VIA the tracking web site. Dealer connect does not give anything but D1. I’m beginning to think a 09 would have been a better choice or it could be a 09 by the time it gets here. I am going frigging nutz here. The MOPAR accessories got here in no time, too bad I can not put them on the car.

I talked to 15 different dealerships in California and not one can order the 09’s yet . In fact 3 of them said that it could take 3 -4 months before they get their 08’s. I also looked up Bob’s tracking and it will not work. I even left a message with one of Bob’s sales managers and I have not heard back. All I got to say is something is diffently wrong here!!! I guess I will wait until I see them on the lot . Then at least I know I will get one.

How can Dodge ignore 6400 “special” orders? What ever happened to “keeping the customer informed”? Even if half of the 08 Challenger orders are prepaid, that’s a guaranteed 128 million bucks in their pockets right now. Sure, they might need to get some Chargers and 300s on lots so they can discount them before the 09’s start showing up, but why not get the “special” orders out first?

Chrysler really didn’t have all their ducks in a row to produce these cars, but being a diehard MOPAR fan I have no choice but to wait patiently. AND IT’S KILLING ME……..

We have been tracking our Challenger, and it shows currently in quality control. Have seen that site is 36 to 48 hours behind in the posting of the status. Interesting to see other comments concerning dealers, Ours has been very cooperative, working with us all the way, keeping in contact with us on status. We are certain we will get the car. Originally had put down a small deposit with another dealer over a year before ordering info was out. Heard around town he was promising at least five people he would get them an 08 challenger. I got my deposit back quickly and sought out a different dealer in a nearby town, and have had five star service there. Wish all well in getting their cars.

these stupid ‘businessmen’ that run cerebrus are more worried about stock holders and financials than the people who actually buy their cars. if i were not a classic mopar fanatic, i’d take my business else where.

hey dodge i have a great idea how bout instead of giving cars to barret jackson petty enterprises and other great causes you get some out on the street so they can be seen a lot of us some people actually will drive the cars instead of stashing them in dust free climate controlled vapor locked hibernation chambers. cars we can’t see and can’t drive can’t be sold.
i was going to take mine on the hotrod power tour this summer and figured that i had a shot with a super low vin number that i might get mine in april or early may. so much for that. it would have been great to see a few on the power tour or at some local car shows and being DRIVEN around. i really don’t like to complain but the empty spot in my garage is not very well filled by a von sheet that has said d status for the last 3 months. 8h2892xx

I spoke to Dodge Customer service yesterday, and the ST specifically told me that this this web site it not accurate (10 year veteran, not a dude in India). He also indicated the the data is not real-time and told me not to trust it.

My car is in D1, has a VIN, and does not show up on site, so I called in.

I also learned that many of these cars may be heading overseas due to the demand of them in Japan and China. Check with your dealer folks to determine his/her allocation of vehicles, this customer support person was brutally honest indicating that many dealers have taken deposits (interest free loans) never intending to sell you the car.

I also learned that some dealerships won’t even get an allocation due to the low volume of sales that have. He indicated that this was the case when the Viper, Cruiser, and Prowler was released. He mentioned that the demand was no where close to these Challengers.

He indicated that even if you have a VIN and a VON, that unless the dealer is allocated that car, you still stand the chance of not getting it.

There are close to 3000 dealerships in the US. 6400 cars— do the math folks. I do hope everyone who ordered it get’s one, but I am concerned.

Welcome

Back in the day, folks referred to holidays as "Red Letter Days" because of their color on calendars. They were times of excitement, tradition and celebration. Well, that's how we feel about the New Dodge and frankly, we've always had a special place in our hearts for red.
