Production Begins on ’08s, Track Bob’s Car for Fun
May 7, 2008 at 1:41PMHey everyone,
So production has begun up in Brampton, Ontario and we’re just waiting for the first 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8s to roll over the line in the next several days. It’s going to take some time to get everyone’s completed, so hang in there. We hope to have some thoughts from the Plant Manager up there for you on RLD pretty soon, along with a video, a press release or two and other related stuff.
In the meantime, for those who aren’t at D1 status yet…take a minute and plug the information of the RLD Dealer Contributor into the ‘08 Challenger production tracker and watch as Bob’s car gets moving along through the factory. Thanks to Bob for letting us all peek behind the curtain on his car! (His delivery estimate is May 15, BTW) It’s a pretty cool little tracking site, so take a minute to poke around (be careful with his last name…there’s a “II” at the end. It only works if you include those.)

Katman- I checked on your car, but it doesn’t come up on our system. Is it in “D1″ status? It has to be at least in “D1″ for me to check it out. Sorry I can’t be of more help to you at this point.
Bob
Good luck Katman. Sounds like you’al are getting about the same answers to the magic question as me. I just wish I could get a set delivery date. Even if it ended up being in 7/08.
Hey , Where is mine ? 8H302373–BOB HELP
I’m from Michigan and I to have been anticipating the release of this car since 06. I placed my order on Dec 03, 2008 with a nice down payment. My car has been in D status for 4 weeks. I am getting really frustrated with customer service not having more information. Chrysler really didn’t have all their ducks in a row to produce these cars, but being a diehard MOPAR fan I have no choice but to wait patiently. AND IT’S KILLING ME……..
Hello everyone!!!!!!! I will check with Chrylser crop. today via telephone. My Chally has been in D1/gateway status too (for over 10 days)….. Will report back….. I know wait is frustating but, remember what it at the end of the line………..
If this tracking is right and if Bob is correct about the time frame there is no way he is going to get his car by the 5/15. He his still stuck in confirmation.. I have been a MOPAR fan for 22 years and it looks like Dodge may have forgotten how to take care of true customers. I wonder if Barrett’s car and Petty’s car actually got to them?? anyone know??
waitinginmichigan, tell me about it! i worked with a dealership since i saw the concept car in ‘06 and had a deposit down at 7 am on 3 December. my car was in d1 2 weeks ago, and all of the sudden, it got pushed back to d. so, who knows when i’ll ever see it. i probably won’t even have it for the mopar nationals at carlisle in july at this rate!
these stupid ‘businessmen’ that run cerebrus are more worried about stock holders and financials than the people who actually buy their cars. if i were not a classic mopar fanatic, i’d take my business else where.
hey dodge i have a great idea how bout instead of giving cars to barret jackson petty enterprises and other great causes you get some out on the street so they can be seen a lot of us some people actually will drive the cars instead of stashing them in dust free climate controlled vapor locked hibernation chambers. cars we can’t see and can’t drive can’t be sold.
i was going to take mine on the hotrod power tour this summer and figured that i had a shot with a super low vin number that i might get mine in april or early may. so much for that. it would have been great to see a few on the power tour or at some local car shows and being DRIVEN around. i really don’t like to complain but the empty spot in my garage is not very well filled by a von sheet that has said d status for the last 3 months. 8h2892xx
Bob is stuck in confermation since the 6th. They better get moving if they are going to make that date of 5/15. They should have an estimated delivery date on the web site if your in D1 Status and update it if its pushed out. Is this web site real time or does someone plug in this data?
cut and paste the name and vin to the form its works all in caps only.
I dont think there is any way to determine which car #/6400 from the VIN…
does anybody know if the vin# tells what number car it is.[Bob’s 8h29083 does that mean he’s got the 83 car?]
the vin# the dealer gave me still isn’t coming up on the order status.8H290877
I spoke to Dodge Customer service yesterday, and the ST specifically told me that this this web site it not accurate (10 year veteran, not a dude in India). He also indicated the the data is not real-time and told me not to trust it.
My car is in D1, has a VIN, and does not show up on site, so I called in.
I also learned that many of these cars may be heading overseas due to the demand of them in Japan and China. Check with your dealer folks to determine his/her allocation of vehicles, this customer support person was brutally honest indicating that many dealers have taken deposits (interest free loans) never intending to sell you the car.
I also learned that some dealerships won’t even get an allocation due to the low volume of sales that have. He indicated that this was the case when the Viper, Cruiser, and Prowler was released. He mentioned that the demand was no where close to these Challengers.
He indicated that even if you have a VIN and a VON, that unless the dealer is allocated that car, you still stand the chance of not getting it.
There are close to 3000 dealerships in the US. 6400 cars— do the math folks. I do hope everyone who ordered it get’s one, but I am concerned.
I tried the website for productions status on Monday and it worked (said my car was confirmed,(I check with Chyrsler corp and told me D1 gateway status). Tried today and yesterday no luck with my car vin or Bobs… Must have some bugs in…….
I got it to work but had to use “all” CAPS.
it works. follow the directions.
I tried to look up Bob’s car but was not able to. I tried it several different ways and got the same message each time.”Could not find vehicle, contact Dealer.”
Thanks for the info RLD and I can’t wait for the Brampton material. That is exactly the type of information we want - show us the factory, the production lines, the cars rolling off. Let us hear from the production manager, foremen, manufacturing engineers. Tell us about the move rates, capacity, line mix, etc.
Really great site DODGE(didn’t work for me).
Maybe Bob’s car slid back to D status.
This is like giving candy or a toy to a kid to get them to shut up for awhile. I like the candy now I wish I can have the toy!!!
Thanks RLD for the info!!!
Thanks for the information and keeping us in the loop. It would be cool to be able to see how many of the 6400 08s currently have VINs assigned. The Unofficial Tracking site is really good but it will be nice to be able to see an official number.
Cool Video on Chrysler LCC Blog
White Dodge Challenger, Kowalski and Super Soul Ride Again
Any idea what each days production numbers will look like?
Great News D1 Status and moving.
Thanks for the update!
RLD,
We’re glad you recognized the fustration from your buyers. Reminds me of the movie Frankenstien “IT IS ALIVE”.
Works great! RLD thanks for listening and giving us some much needed info… we all know delays are normal especially on a new production car… and I would much rather have a delay than a poorly built car… Keeping the customers in the loop like this make us feel appreciated. And thanks Bob for providing your info so we can track it.
I tried again and the problem was the use of the correct characters for his last name
I just tried this and the response was that it could not find the vehicle. contact dealer
