I would like to help clear things up about how cars are painted in a factory. First of all guns are not used the type of equipment used to apply paint to the body is done either by electrostatic bells or by a robot using a robobell applicator. Most production is random. Sure there my be more silver cars painted on one day then say black ones but it just depends on build sheets. Color changes can be done in a matter of seconds usually under 10 seconds. The plant has a paint kitchen with pumps designated for each color with circulation lines moving the paint to the application equipment. All automotive paint now is two componet type and the catalist is added to the color (resin)at the applicator via a 2-K system. It is very expensive to have a bunch of colors because of the equipment involved like pumps, circulation lines (thousands of feet) filtration ect… If they are building other cars at brampton like the 300 and charger ect.. which comes in chryslers standard colors like silvers reds blacks they don’t have a bunch of extra equipment to add colors. Keep in mind most car plants don’t build every peace of the car they have satelite plants that build parts like facias,
mirrors, spoilers ect.. and all those plants would have the same type set up to paint those parts. My guess is this is why colors may be phased in at different times of the year. I install industrial finishing equipment for a living and its a very complex system to paint cars with some plants making up 600 hundred units per day.
I LOVE THE ORIGINAL DODGE CHARGER 1969 WITH THE ORANGE HEMI TOR RED…….AND NOW MY DODGE INTREPID 2001 IS IN PROGESS IN THE PAINT SHOP…….YES , IT WILL BE ORANGE HEMI WITH BLACK PAINT STRIPPE!!!
Plum crazy was now back in the day as (Statutory Grape)my buddy had a duster that we named the statutory grape ape.
Man that was a fast duster!
Dodge please make the colors as were offered on the 70″s models and add a bit of metal flake to the paint options on all colors.
The black pearl with matal flake is stunning !!!!
Can you imagine plum crazy or go mango orange with metal flake, wow!
Also a clear coat option would be nice to protect the paint.
We need cool striping also and decal kits that bring back that mopar attitude we all so desire.
My choice would be Plum Crazy. But I also think you should have a Black Pearl.
YELLOW?
I know I was last seen driving a white 1970 challenger into oblivion, but with the resurrection of the challenger, I have returned! The two upper models (SRT,RT) should have all the original colors from the seventies. This time around I would like a dark green metallic car with a shaker hood. Long live challenger!
Another point , an ‘08 SRT HEMI ORANGE is an ‘08 only and has it’s distinction from an ‘09 SRT in the VERY SAME COLOR ! So where is the worry to not have this color for ‘09 SRT’s ? I just think there’s more to it than just that with DODGE , not being told …..
not only the Carbon Stripe , but a shitload of options and standard equipment , and drivetrain - distinguish the SRT … same with the R/T is very different that it and the S/E ….. can’t say that for the hood though ….. and also a color being the same on an R/T and a SRT is no big deal as we all know how to look past color to differentiate a SRT from an R/T
So like we all want our COLORS , DODGE - just hand them out without fear , but au contraire - you have everything to win !
Please allow Hemi-Orange as a color for the 2009 SRT. It is understandable that you want the 2008 SRTs to be unique, but if that is the case why didn’t you ban black and silver as well? The 2008 SRT will be the only car that has the carbon fiber hood decal. That should be enough distinction!
You had a winner with this color. Don’t lose sales because you are not offering it in the 2009 SRTs.
What’s going on DODGE !? Hemi Orange only slated in ‘09 for the R/T !!! What about the R/T Special Edition (later in year production)- it will only come in B5 Blue !!?? What a mistake - when you have another opportunity for the retro high impact colors !!!
I can’t remember did I mention CURIOUS YELLOW. Curious Yellow or Top Banana or Citron Yellow would look good sitting next to our citron 1970 Challenger and our Curious 1971 ‘cuda. And also make the original Petty Blue (Corporation Blue) it will look awesome, it looks great on our 1972 Chally and Road Runner.
Hemi Orange has the not to mess with me look and plum crazy has the cool look.
Turbine Bronze, the same color that was on the turbine car. It was also the color of my 1967 Coronet 500
I know that the Pistol Grip is sealed and even pics have been spied ….
To accompany that ,what is needed is the wrap-around floor CONSOLE that came in the 6spd Concept …. can you confirm this wil come with the 6spd , or we’re stuck with the bland squarish console similar to the automatic ?
Dodge - be smart and please build that wrap-around CONSOLE like in the concept/’70’s !
Don’t worry– the Pistol Grip 6-speed is a done deal for ‘09!!!!
Heheh my man JustForFun , well said bro ! (from ChallengerTalk.com Forum) - see we all holding each other here Dodge - we all in this together and we all want the same things - CHOICE to make our hearts sing truly retro all the way !
I posted it in Bob thread - but since we’re at it - DODGE PEOPLE - do give us the 6spd’s wrap-around floor console of the concept’s/’70’s original …. this square box console really sucks ! Sooo wide and bland - it’s a sore-eye ! At least the rippled leather seats similar to the Concept’s are confirmed for the R/T’s .
I tell you if you don’t build a proper floor shift console - I will transplant one from an original or go to a custom shop to build one ! I remember sitting as a kid with my arm wrap-around by that console - what a feeling it was , and my Challenger needs one and it will get one either way …. my mind has been set on this (and other stuff) from day one and you can come read about it here :
http://www.challengertalk.com/forums/f19/what-you-would-desire-modify-your-new-chally-interior-exterior-1471/
Give me B5 blue, lemon twist, sublime, plum crazy tor-red,hemi orange and go mango. Bring them all back!!!!!! Also the shaker hood, pistol grip and more important a DROP TOP!!!!
B5 blue, lemon twist, sublime, plum crazy tor-red,hemi orange and go mango. Bring them all back!!!!!! Also the shaker hood, pistol grip and more important a DROP TOP!!!!
I remember the muscle car days very well. There were various colors that told you at a glance what the car was. And while it may sound like a sacrilege, my favorite color is black. Low, mean, lean, bad, dangerous it just speaks volumes! I reminds me of all of the things that your parents told you that weren’t good for you! Perhaps with an off black, gray, pin stripe, I am not sure of the color.
DODGE - Please listen to all of us. Show us and the world that your truly DO care about customer satisfaction. You have a singular chance here to give us something VERY special - something that is emotionally potent for all of us that are crazy about what you have done so far with this car.
Give me Plum Crazy and let me have a list of retro options to choose from ala the ’70’s. I would certainly check off the box for a Shaker hood, racing stripes, hood-pins, a three-spoke steering wheel, a pistol-grip shifter. But give us CHOICE. Please.
Have to have a shaker option and hood pins. Hood pins from billet alum.
Not just Sublime but a kicked up sublime. Maybe some kind of hot metalic lime.
alpine white…….or black …..
Hood stripes for the rt.Hood pins.
Please!!
Exactly Justin ! Hand us out that order sheet and let us checkmark the color we want with the bumble bee or billboard striping of our choice . If the Go Mango that I want is not produced this month - then I’ll wait for the next month it comes around - rotation style
If you want to sell - we need to buy WHAT WE WANT in options
“If not as a full color choice offered on all models maybe as a production limited edition.(4-5000 cars)
Load up those limited editions with options like a Shaker hood, Stripes, CAI/Exhaust.”
This is exactly what I DON’T want them to do. All of a sudden to get the color I want I’ve got to pay for a whole buttload of options I don’t need. That plum crazy charger sitting on the lot sure was tempting, but not at 37k. And I’m not one to buy something if it’s not exactly what I want. I wouldn’t have been happy with a charger in smog blue or whatever that color was and I knew it. So that’s one less charger sold. I’m hoping I can have what I want with the Challenger.
FE-5 Red with the 70′ style stripe option and the hood black out. I don’t care for the carbon fiber look. And if dodge wants top sales
bring back a true SUPER BEE not based on a four door car.
Dodge marketing….I think you did a good job with the Daytona packages on the Charger.
I own a Go-Mango!
I do agree with what the other posters here are saying, bring back the retro colors.
If not as a full color choice offered on all models maybe as a production limited edition.(4-5000 cars)
Load up those limited editions with options like a Shaker hood, Stripes, CAI/Exhaust.
In addition to the colors, I also agree that there should be the option for a white interior or at least white seats and bezel on the dash, etc.
I would probably order an R/T in Go-Mango with white stripes and white interior.
Thanks for your interest in what the consumer wants and not pushing rice on us!
So Dodge , here you have it - IT IS A NECESSITY TO OFFER ALL HIGH-IMPACT COLORS , and DogeBoy below said it best ! Easily you can have multiple hits of continuous sales by offering ALL the most popular high impact colors IN PHASE SEQUENCE ROTATION + choice of different stripings (solid) with R/T cut-outs on the sides and on the hoods .
I know that the Carbon Fiber is only for the SRT8 , and the black stripings will be offered on the rest .
I really like the Hemi Orange , but really the Go Mango is necessary to add (make both !) , it would be a hard choice between both , but would be healthy to get to see both on the streets !
Here’S a great site with ALL the high imact colors & codes http://www.aarta.com/pictures/aarta.html
Yes,Lemon Twist and Top Banana are the same paint. Top Banana being the Dodge Name.
I have a 70 sublime green cuda and I would like to see a sublime green challenger as would many other people I have talked to. Get back to the high impact colors that made mopars famous.
Sublime Green or Lemon Twist with billboard graphics. I know Lemon Twist is a ‘cuda color, don’t know if it translates to Challenger.
Curious Yellow PLEASE, or Top Banana. It would be sad for Dodge not to have the Challenger in yellow while both the Camaro and Mustang have a yellow car. Bring back the B5 or the REAL Petty Blue. If not have an option where people can order their Challenger in primer gray so we can paint it whatever color we want. We have a curious yellow ‘cuda, and Challenger. And a 1972 Petty Blue Challenger, we need a car to match . PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DODGE HAVE A YELLOW, I DON’T CARE TOP BANANA OR CURIOUS OR DETONATOR IT DOES NOT MATTER JUST HAVE ONE.
Yes, Sassy Grass Green and Green Go are the same paint- Code FJ6. Introduced in the spring of ‘70 as a mid-year offering,Plymouth called it Sassy Grass Green and Dodge called it Green Go. It was used through the ‘71 model year. Definitely my favorite too. Panther Pink(Dodge)Code FM3 and Moulin Rouge(Plymouth)same code were introduced at the same time as Sassy and Green Go,But very few examples of the FM3 were produced in ‘71–mainly a mid-late ‘70 color.
My favorites are plum crazy and sassy grass green.Does anyone know the diffrence between sassy grass and green go? Or are they the same color? I am going to buy one of each in those colors if they offer both.
I’d have to say Green Go,but I have to agree with dodgeboy, what would be the problem with offering ALL of the original hi impact colors,a few at a time phasing them back in and out every month or 2- that will keep some individuality in the cars.
Green go! That would be my first choice on the new Challenger. Offer all the original Hi Impact colors. Green go my #1 choice though. I agree that we need stripe style and color choices too. White Interior choice would be awesome.
I’m definitely familiar with the ‘69 and ‘71 Plymouth color “Bahama Yellow”. I’m personally not a fan of it- it’s a mustard sort of color,Dodge called it “Butterscotch”– Same code (EL5) for both though. Actually, I’m not much of a fan of Top Banana either, but I think it may sell pretty well. In my opinion,by far the best looking yellow is the ‘71 color”Citron Yella”(GY3) or for you Plymouth guys,”Curious Yellow”-Same code. I think Dodge should offer both.
http://www.swcorvette.com/69%20yellow%20roadrunner.htm
There’s pics of bahama yellow. I think it’s a little too “taxi”. Just my opinion though.
there seems to be a lot of people that are asking for top bannana. do you guys remember bahama yellow? i think it is ten times better than top bannana. any comments would be appreciated.
Black, White, Silver, Silver steel (or true gun metal grey), Sublime green, Plum crazy, True Go mango, Yellow, Light greystone, Patriot or modern blue (for the mainstream), competition orange, electric blue?, Inferno red (mainstream), snakeskin green was cool, Race red, Dark Garnet red, Inca gold?, My opinion would be to make six or seven standard colours and have eight or ten “specialty” colours for the enthusist. Ok, mabey charge a small price increase for speciality colours (this does not mean $1,500 that Dodge usually considers SMALL but a nice comfortable $250. I myself would be fine with that. Although so far, I’m already sold on boaring ass silver. In my opinion I think it sits extremely well on the Challenger so far. But that’s just me. A white interior option would be good and of course some stripe options.
All of the original High-Impact colors need to be offered. At least two or three at a time on all models(SRT8,R/T,even the V6 model). Not just once and gone either-Phase them in and out every month or two.Hemi Orange,Plum Crazy,Sublime,Green-Go,Top Banana,Citron Yella and the “Real” Go Mango. Panther Pink Every once-in-awhile would be cool too. Also, the “999 Code” Petty Blue,Straight Black as opposed to Brilliant Black here and there, and of course Bright White and B5 Blue.Plus the normal Dodge colors like Inferno Red. Also need to rename the current red “Rallye Red” instead of Tor Red(Tor Red was really Plymouth’s name for Hemi Orange so it’s incorrect). Also need White interior option(Seats and Door Panels) and Red interior option as well. There should also be several stripe otions-Bumble Bee Stripe(Like 1970),Longitudinal(also like 1970),Hood Performance Tape(Black) and the option to delete any and all stripes. The stripes should be available in Black,White or Red(Depending on car color).
Hemi Orange, Black, Silver, Stone White, Torred, Sublime, Plum Crazy, Top banana, Bronze, and a shade of blue. There, that’s the perfect color selection. I think everyone could find something they like from that.
30-40 colors is not going to happen. Most cars these days have 6-10 color choices. I’m not necessarily saying that 6-10 is a good number, the old challengers had about 16 color choices in any given year, which sounds great to me. 30-40 is just unrealistic though.
30 or 40 colors?
but you like grey interior?
Plum crazy, several shades of blue (I don’t care much for the blues dodge used in the 60’s & 70’s), a bright yellow (my top banana challenger was too washed out - I want to see a brighter top banana with a bit more red in it), green and red are also good ideas. I would recommend that you provide several different shades of each color, give challenger buyers something like 30 or 40 different colors to choose from. Also, various strip packages would be nice, let us choose billboard or strobe stripes if we want them. White interior is not a good idea - it always looks dirty - maybe a few different shades of gray for the interior. let us pick a gray interior that works with the color paint that we chose.
Plum crazy, Top Bananna, Sublime, ToRed, Hemi Orange Pearl, GoMango, Black Crystal Pearl and Inferno Red. ALL should be done with a Pearl coat.
sassygrass
b5 blue
Hemi orange (or whatever version your calling it now)
And, perhaps it would be good to only offer these colors on the challenger, not any….other….car.
sublime, go mango, bahama yellow, plum crazy, b5 blue.
Metallic blue, B5 blue, Dodge orange.
Sublime, Hemi-orange, Rallye-Red, Black, Pearl, Plum Crazy, and Bananna Yellow
Come to think of it just copy and paste the Viper color selection over to the challenger.
“Skydiver” mentioned a colour called Autumn bronze metallic. I am the original owner of a 1971 GTX that is that colour. It is paint code K6. It is slightly darker than the 72 version. It gets a lot of nice comments. The only problem is that prolonged sun exposure causes it to turn a little bluish like a penny. I believe it is the copper in the paint. So it needs a lot of waxing. I like this colour, but I already have one, so my first choice now is still for the Plum Crazy.
My choice of colors (in order) would be: Hemi-orange, Rallye-Red, Black Pearl, Plum Crazy, Bananna Yellow and Sublime.
Many people who buy them and the original mopar muscle are Baby Boomers. They have cash now that they didn’t when the muscle cars came out. They want to recapture their lost youth with the muscle cars they had or were never able to get.
Did I mention that Curious Yellow would be the best color. Petty Blue would be the 2nd best.
plum crazy metallic ( original one or not too light at least. No white stripes, black stripes or none )
Sublime
metallic blue
plum crazy metallic ( not too light and with black stripes or no stripes. White stripes looks too girly )
sublime
metallic blue
Plum Crazy, Sublime Green are tops. I always dreamed of having a black 71 cuda, they look so sinister.
Hey Bulldog, I can afford one and I am not a Baby Boomer.
I would strongly recommend that you have a true Copper color similar to what was a 1973 color called Autumn Bronze Metal flake It looked similar to GoManGo, but was more of a copper color than orange. I would also suggest that you call it Catch-Me-Copper, but that would require you to put eye patches and ear plugs on your Politically Correct Police. So, Red Letter if you have the balls, give me a Catch-Me-Copper! Or else I am going to have to get a Top Banana or Sublime Green, - and if you don’t provide those, then you will be responible for my divorce - cause my wife wont let me get Black or White and that will be the only other colors I would consider - of course, if you still have the Hemi-Orange, that may placate her 8^)
Plum Crazy, absolutely…I agree…is a must!!! As I recall (I worked for Chrysler in 1970) Panther Pink never made production because of a formula or adhesion problem. The only one I ever saw was in the promo pic. Yellow and the metallic blue is good. Green Go (Challenger T/A made it popular). Bodyside stripe would be a good option!!!! If not production, at least thru Mopar!
Here are my choices in no particular order…
- Statutory Grape (a.k.a. Plum Crazy)
- Inferno Red
- Classic White (NOT the “Cool Vanilla”)
- B5 Blue is nice, but I’d love to see the same Atlantic Pearl Blue that’s on my 04 Ram.
- GoManGo Orange
And I agree - bring back a white interior option. Or how about good ol’ tan? Or red? What ever happened to those interior color choices? Where is it written that the only interior choice has to be dull-as-dishwater dark gray? Give us some other interior color choices!
The people who can afford this car, which would be the boomers, they want the old colors. Petty Blue is a awesome color for a Challenger. Goggle it, look bad a$$. Curious Yellow is by far the best. Or Top Banana.
CURIOUS YELLOW, CURIOUS YELLOW
TOP BANANA YELLOW
PETTY BLUE
OK, here it is:
Of course Hemi Orange (great) & black, silver, white (boring) but ya gotta do these or there is no integrity in the retro design of this hot car
B-5 blue (not petty blue, it never sold well)
Plumb crazy,
tor red,
sublime (possibly, but probably won’t sell well)
Yellow of some hue
NO Panther Pink (reminisce all you want - it never sold well)
yeah bring back STRIPES.
s SHAKER hood.
ohh yeah PLUMB CRAZY and who cares give me B5 or PETTY blue i don’t care.
I really want a Plum Crazy Purple SRT8 Challenger. I’d be real happy with that. Add that to your production line-up, and you won’t be able to keep them on the lot.
Btw… I’m not a big fan of the fake carbon fiber stripes, either. If you want to make something optional, then give the folks paying over $40K for a car a choice.
My second favorite choice would be the Patriot Blue that I had on my Jeep Cherokee Classic.
I am the original owner of a 1968 Coronet R/T. The paint code is QQ1 with a white vinyl interior. It is slightly darker than the 1969 B5 and it has a little more metallic aspect to the finish.
Man I messed that up. We want a stripe package, please.. LOL
PLEASE GIVE US A SRIP PACKAGE!!! How about real piant on the hood? You can keep those CF stripes..
Sublime, Plum Crazy, and B5 Blue (the 2008 #43 seemed more like a Petty blue). Also, give use white interior and R/T stripe packages! Do it . . . Do it, Do it
FE-5 Red, JA-5 Silver Frost. Also bring back the Bumble Bee and Longitude Stripes as an option. And in my opinion I would like to see a retro style Magnum 500 or Rally Wheel because it seems to me all the new cars have the same type foose like wheels.
Plum crazy looks great on the 1970 and I bet it would just as hot on the 2009
Go mango, like my daytona gets rave reviews from everyone that sees it.
White with the black accents works too….anything but boring silver
Lime Green has to be made, and not only as a SRT option. Alpine White, Plum Crazy, b5 blue of course, and perhaps a top banana yellow to added to color choices (even if only in a limited production run). Catch me copper may also appeal to some.
Do it for America Dodge. Do it for America.
I vote for:
1st - Plum Crazy
2nd - White
3rd - Candy Apple Red (a real candy apple shade with a deep gloss, not Dodge’s FE5 Red. I never liked it on Challengers.)
4th - Sublime
5th - Panther Pink
6th - B5 Blue (the real deal, not the Petty Blue shade of the recent #43 auction)
And bring back the white interior. Nothing looks better than a nice Plum Crazy, Panther Pink, or B5 Blue with a white interior.
BTW, correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Moulin Rouge was a Plymouth color (although basically the same as Panther Pink). Also, “challengerhopeful”, what is Q1 blue? Is it a later Dodge color? I’m a big fan of metallic blue colors but I can’t seem to find a pic of that one.
sublime, top bannana, B-5 blue, rally red. bring’em all back!!that way we can buy one of each color
Plum crazy and candy apple red
Plum Crazy with a black vinyl top to match my 70 cuda.
Sublime on V6 please! PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Light green metallic would be nice too!
PLUM CRAZY,PLUM CRAZY,PLUM CRAZY, DID I MENITION PLUM CRAZY, SUBLIME IS ALSO A NICE COLOR IF YOU CAN’T GET PLUM CRAZY. I LOVE MY PLUM CRAZY 1970 CHALLENGER SE/RT AND I LIKE THE NEW CHALLENGER TO. I HOPE TO HAVE A NEW ONE SITTING NEXT TO MY ORIGINAL CHALLENGER.
What…no Panther Pink?
Please make the cool colors available on all the models including the V6 Challengers.
1. Plum Crazy Metallic, 2. Blue Metallic, 3. Dark Green Metallic
Plum Crazy, Sublime and B5 Blue.
Moulin Rouge or Lemon Twist.
off topic for a moment, I just received a email from chrysler that the 2008 srt8 are only coing in black and orange! and here in Canada with the release date of April ( also in email) they still will not give a price for Canada! I can’t believe that less than a month to go and they still don’t know a price, BTW my invoice for mine is over $62K
Metallic Blue
Candy Apple Red
My first choice for the challenger is plum crazy or sublime second. The B5 blue is nice also, but I prefer the Q1 blue which had a little more metallic look.
