True Blue: #43 Challenger Auction Site Awaiting Bids For Charity
Jan 28, 2008 at 1:02PMWith the World Debut date so close (For those unfamiliar, World Debut = First auto show where the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be…anywhere…in the world) we’re getting antsy around the office. We’ve seen so much action with this vehicle and soon, it will all be a reality. From concept to production model in scarcely two years time. While we understand your enthusiasm and appreciate your impressive patience waiting for Feb. 6 in Chicago, you’ve gotta admit, it’s a Herculean effort getting a car ready for prime time…especially an SRT8 model (if you’ve driven one, you won’t be questioning that statement, in our humble opinion.)
Before we get into our pre-Chicago coverage, however, there’s one more high-stakes auction that you might be interested in reading up on. The #43 of 6,400 is on sale on eBay…
CHALLENGER #43 CHARITY AUCTION
After nearly 35 years, the All-New 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is revving up and getting ready to race off of the production line; but when the first Challengers hit the market, only one of them will be painted in legendary B5 Blue. And it could be yours.
From February 12-22, 2008, bid on this one-of-a-kind vehicle. The winning bidder will drive away in the #43 Challenger painted in B5 Blue, with black hood stripes, featuring a 6.1L SRT HEMI® V8 engine and a five-speed AutoStick® transmission.
All proceeds will benefit the Victory Junction Gang, an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children with chronic illness, founded by Kyle Petty, in honor of his late son, Adam.
THE WINNER WILL ALSO RECEIVE:
* Two VIP passes to the Dodge Challenger 500, May 2008, complete with airfare and lodging
* A meet-and-greet session with Kyle Petty
* Inclusion of a Dodge Motorsports prize pack with vehicle delivery

i pre-registered for this auction, but never heard back from the company setting it up. i don’t see the listing on e-bay yet either.
HOW could Dodge have screwed this up so badly???!!! EVERY new vehicle that Chrysler has released this decade the interiors have been trashed by reviewers, and deservedly so. Add another one to the list. Cheap, cheap, cheap.
why did you ruin the interior with vanilla charger parts bin junk? You didn’t get the idea that we didn’t want another charger? Even the pertiest rose, if it is full of crap, it smells like crap! Why did you fill our car with crap?
If you go to Allpar.com, you can see some photos of the production interior. I just viewed a picture of the concept interior side-by-side with the production interior.
The production interior pales in comparison to the concept. The concept interior gave me the feeling of youth, muscle, power, and freedom. The production interior lost so many of the cool features! Where is the telemetry data guage? Where are the awesome ribbed seats - we pay $41k plus dealer markup and we can’t even get a full-leather seat?!?! What is with the cloth seats on the SRT?!?! What happened to the retro, slotted steering wheel? The toggle switches in the concept were so cool - now they’re gone! Once again, get rid of the Ram heads!
I have a Challenger on order should be here around April sometime and I payed sticker and thats it Dave
if you are that worried about colors, drive her straight to the body shop
daytonakid, line was not shut down for Challenger retooling. Several plants have had planned shutdowns for inventory adjustment reasons.
hmmmm
since challengerhopeful is right on….makes one wonder why they shut down the line in Jan. to retool, only to wait to begin production in April??
where’s the love?
“Challengerhopeful” is right on, ALL of the Challengers built so far are pre-production models. NOT A SINGLE model has been built that will go to a retail customer. Retail production is set for APRIL. Deliveries will start in MAY. Period.
The Brampton plant has been shut down the last 2 weeks for re-tooling on the line for the Challenger. The cars bult to date have been mules and test cars.
That would be a hard one to explain daytonakid, i think you got him on that one unless they made about 10 to go to shows.
OK Mr. Robert Meadows..the guru of mopar? All wise and knowing!
I guess we will just have to wait and see. Watch when they (full production cars) start popping up at other auto shows (other than chicago)!
And if not, my “good authority” must have lied to me when he saw them rolling off the line and being carted off to another location.
ps. if they are not in production yet…explain the spy photos of the silver and orange one that recently popped on on the net.
i’m not worried, i am just trying to glean a scrap of information. i don’t think any cars are built. i can’t get a call back from the factory, nor has the vin # been assigned. i think after the chicago show, we will finally be told when we can have our cars.
Quote - dakotakid: “FYI I have it on GOOD authority that the dodge plant here in Brampton is well underway into production… I heard today that there is already over 1000 challengers built and under secret storage waiting for shipment”
Not a word of that is true, better find a different “authority”. Challenger SRT8 Production has been, and still is, set for April.
Hey FRONTYARDRESTOGUY
Dont worry yourself regarding the ebay rules and shipment date of the #43 blue car.
FYI I have it on GOOD authority that the dodge plant here in Brampton is well underway into production… I heard today that there is already over 1000 challengers built and under secret storage waiting for shipment after the official unvailing next week in chicago!
“People want the old school colors for the newer muscle cars. Hemi orange, well I have seen so much Hemi orange in the past 2 years that I am not a fan of it. Others may like it though. You MUST release the old colors, citron yella or curious yellow, b5 blue, petty blue, sublime, plum crazy purple. I mean silver, black and orange come on.”
Agreed! The colors I have heard announced for the 09s are White, Silver, Black, Hemi-orange, Titanium metallic, and Red. I have seen hemi-orange to death and red is hardly a retro color. I want sublime and I don’t want to pay for a $5000 daytona package to get it! I’d settle for that viper green as well
Great color. Hopefully they build more in 09.
if you noticed on the videos with barrington and castiglione, the design board showed hemi orange, plum crazy, and sublime.
Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll bring back the retro colors. It makes sense to limit the palette for the 08 models though, because of the limit production. I just hope Plumb Crazy is available for the 09 model year, because that’s what I want.
Are there going to be more of this, and other colors in 2009?
This color does not look like B-5 blue to me. It looks like Petty blue which is a different hue. I do hope they bring back all of the high impact colors including B-5 blue. I would love for my wife to have a blue Challenger convertible later to match my Cuda.
OK Dodge, I like how #43 is for charity, and a lot of money will go to a good cause but….
WHY ARE YOU NOT GOING TO RELEASE THIS COLOR TO THE PUBLIC????? People want the old school colors for the newer muscle cars. Hemi orange, well I have seen so much Hemi orange in the past 2 years that I am not a fan of it. Others may like it though. You MUST release the old colors, citron yella or curious yellow, b5 blue, petty blue, sublime, plum crazy purple. I mean silver, black and orange come on.
interesting, under e-bay rules this car would have to be delivered to the customer by march 23rd. and being #43 i would suspect 42 other cars to be delivered first. this fits in with the late february early march production schedule that was rumored.
I understand charity but these auctions are just going to drive up price as greedy dealers will bump up their mark-ups. I elected to NOT get a 2008 as the greedy dealer want a $20K markup on a $37K car. If that trend continues with the 2009 model, I’ll go for a Pontiac G-8 or, God forgive me, a high end Mustang.
