Video: Castiglione and Barrington Pt. 7

Jan 17, 2008 at 12:33PM RLD

So this is it…our final chapter of our sit down with Micheal Castiglione and Alan Barrington, the team that designed the Dodge Challenger concept. (For links to the full seven-segment series, click here.) Few folks ever get such a thorough look into the minds of guys like this, so we hope you enjoyed it. As for the production version, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 which debuts in a couple weeks, Micheal and Alan passed the project over to a team in Detroit.

Through this blog, we’ve received loads of questions about the production version. Unfortunately, until the car debuts, we can’t answer virtually any of them before the debut, because…well…that’s what a debut is for. On the bright side…maybe, just maybe…we’ll have some exclusive and similarly insightful words from some important people involved in bringing the concept to the 2008 model you’ll be seeing on the roads later this year.

In the meantime, we asked Micheal and Alan to wrap up their conversation by talking about their thoughts on how the production version turned out and how they were involved to make sure it stayed pure to their vision. They also talk about how their design studio in Southern California works and why it has been so successful. And finally, they enlighten us as to those famous signatures they’ve developed. Enjoy…

Interesting to hear Michael’s comments about the diversion from some of the “purity”. I may be reading into it but I sensed there were a couple elements left off the production version that he might feel should have been there…

PISTOL GRIP SHIFTER!! Just to name one.

Spy photos of the Challenger’s interior have been posted on allpar.com.

If these photos are accurate, it looks like the entire dash and guages were lifted directly from the Charger. While I like the Charger’s interior, I was expecting something much more…something unique for the Challenger- not a clone from another model!

    Very disappointing!!

No 08 Challenger at the St. Louis show either. But really it would not make sense to have the “Concept” car at any of the shows when the “real” car will be at the Chicago show in a week or so. (Feb 8th I think). I have an 08 on order and think they look pretty good, but I honestly liked the Concept “Cuda” that was shown on Barrett-Jackson alot better. I’m a shaker hood kinda guy. But I think it was wrong of them to show the cuda in a better time slot then the challenger had. And it was close to the same color, which did’nt help either. Think that was FORDS doing since they sponsored the event?

Up someones butt in CHICAGO.IF this car is coming out in 2008 should\’nt you have more than a couple? Do you think you can talk and not show and still sell it? Probably so but that is UNACCEPTABLE for me.I WILL WAIT AND BUY A CAMARO for less and Blow the doors off the INVISABLE CHALLENGERS………………

I know that this is a minor point, but why did you place the windshield washer jets in the middle of the hood tape stripe? Why couldn’t you concel them in the wiper well??

Alan, Last week I saw the spy photo of the 2009 Challenger interior. I know that some compromises had to be made in bringing the concept to production, but the console and temperature guages look very cheap- not something we would expect on an SRT or R/T Challenger.

I wonder if they used the Ram in the AFLAC comercial as a model for the emblem? NAAAAAAAAAAA (snicker)

I agree, trash the Ram’s head. It could’nt look worse if it was a Ram’s Butt. (ha-ha)

I had a 1973 340 Challeger. I messed up the hood on it and had it replaced. They used the old D O D G E letters so I have brand new Letters to put on my brand new Challenger! I am waiting. 14 days to see the real one.

PS - Please kill the Ram head, don’t make us deface our brand new cars..

Never too late to kill a sticker.

Please make the RAM removeable to allow us to place D O D G E on the Challenger Hood! Seriously, the ram TAKES AWAY from the fantastic front. Its not too late. (Unless you designed the hood for a sticker insert, \”sigh\”)

Where is a marketing department when you need one? Who do I have to call? Thanks in Advance.

Is it possible to option out the Ram head? It ruins the entire front end look of the car. I’d hate to take parts off my new car on day ONE!

Welcome

Back in the day, folks referred to holidays as "Red Letter Days" because of their color on calendars. They were times of excitement, tradition and celebration. Well, that's how we feel about the New Dodge and frankly, we've always had a special place in our hearts for red.
