Video: Castiglione and Barrington Pt. 6

Jan 3, 2008 at 4:46PM RLD

Happy New Year! We’re counting down the days and weeks to the production Challenger debut, but in the meantime, we’ve got two more segments from the fathers of the Challenger concept…Micheal Castiglione and Alan Barrington. This is Part 6. Check out the first five editions here…

In this edition:

–What was it like being assigned the Challenger concept?
–What happened to the gas cap?
–How long did it take to know it was a hit?
–”The Detroit Show was like a dream.”
–Do they get treated different around the office now?
–Behind the scenes at the Pacifica Advanced Design Center (gravity racing, anyone?)

“Wow- $41K for the Challenger. What happen to positioning the Challenger to Compete with the Mustang. Oh well, deceived again.”

$41k is for the top of the line loaded SRT Challenger. 2009 R/T models will be less expensive and the 2009 base models cheaper yet.

Your dealer lied to you (surprise!!), the production start is still several months away.

    Here is my wish list:

    1. Design a ‘Cuda model (based on the 1971)
    2. Add the following options to the Challenger: shaker hood, T/A style-hood, side tape stripes, backlight window louvers, side megaphone exhausts, and hood pins.

I have a question. I know that Alan Barrington designed the interior on the concept, but obviously it is going to change on the production model. Did Alan take part in the redesign to make it production ready or was that task handed off to another group?

So by looking at the Challenger SRT8 info on Dodge’s web site, it appears that only the 5 spd automatic is available? If true, that’s disappointing as all other top of the line performance cars from other makers offer a manual transmission. Come on Dodge, give us what we need!

You have nothing to worry about in the Camaro, Greg. Did you see the super cheap looking interior? And everyone is complaining about the faux 3 vent air inlet just forward of the rear wheel. The Camaro just looks catroonish because they went too agressive with the design. The Challenger is a better choice all day long.

You guys got it right once again. All we need on the car now is customer orders however we want them without dang packages(I sure can customize a Scion if i want to from the factory), a shaker option, and open season on all the mouthwatering colors, plum crazy(i mean — violet, sublime, etc. Oh yeah, you guys smoked the charger designers, I wish they had clue like this guy http://www.automotivestylings.com/mopar/charger_2view_black.htm
Oh yeah, Chrysler, we could stand some real production pics, outside of them fuzzy spy pics, yup we already saw the tailight! Your teaser pics were conquered.

Good stuff but can you please throw this old dog a bone about the production cars interior? I’m starting to die on the vine here fellas..

FYI - Chevy announced today no more camo on the Camaro and released official pics . Don’t let those GM guys show us up!!

Welcome

Back in the day, folks referred to holidays as "Red Letter Days" because of their color on calendars. They were times of excitement, tradition and celebration. Well, that's how we feel about the New Dodge and frankly, we've always had a special place in our hearts for red.
