Mail Call! A Few Answers For You, Challenger Info Coming
Oct 10, 2007 at 3:16PMOne of the goals of Red Letter is to offer readers the opportunity to ask honest questions and get honest answers from Dodge. And we’ve been hit by dozens of questions in the past days that we’re circulating for answers. Some might take a while, but hey, we want to make sure that your questions get good answers from the right people, not just “Thanks, we can’t tell you.”
As a Red Letter reader, you are entitled to something a bit more…like you’re the kind of person who knows a big shot over here that’s happy to chat over a cup of coffee or over the backyard fence. What’s that, neighbor? You want to know specs on the Challenger? Uh…thanks, we can’t tell you.
Make that we can’t tell you yet. But here’s a few answers to questions that have been asked so far, with many more to come in the days ahead:
——————————–
Color Schemes
As you can tell from our latest poll, available paint colors are a hot topic these days. And Dodge has a proud history of famous color schemes from back in the day. All this inspired this question from Yankee:
“The Viper has some really cool new color selections. How about expanding the same color selection to the rest of the SRT line as well? You guys have GOT to get past this “only available in red, silver and black” mentality and offer more colors. The addition of Plum Crazy and Detonator Yellow on the Charger SRT8 are a good start… but they’re still not enough.”
Our own Mike Accavitti answers:
Good question, thanks for asking. We periodically look at the SRT color palate and solicit dealer and customer feedback. The buzz color strategy using throw back colors has been very popular to date. The B-5 Blue SRT8 Super Bee is another great example of that. However, we have built the SRT line’s street cred up by doing unpredictable things. So stay tuned on this subject…

Dodge Challenger in Mexico/Australia? How about Magnum or Charger?
Picking which markets get which products is a big part of running a global auto brand and the details of these decisions inspired a couple questions:
Elmer said:
“hi i´m from mexico and i´d love to know if the new challenger is going to be available on mexico and when because i´m bored of mustangs and i´d love to own a challenger”
and SammyValencia posted:
“Love the blog guys! Keep up the good work, I’ve been a fan of Dodge ever since I knew what cars were but living in Australia it was always going to be hard to get one… until now! - A proud owner of a Dodge Caliber RT!
What i’d love to see on the blog is info about Dodge AU as well as Dodge USA… what new models are coming and why cars like the Ram, Charger, Magnum, Durango aren’t available here as i know plently of people who would love them!!”
Our own Pablo Cuevas, Senior Manager of International Marketing, sent along his profound thanks to the customers and fans of Dodge outside of the U.S. Unfortunately, he said, the company is in the midst of making these decisions and is always looking for new markets and opportunities for vehicles, but can’t comment or make promises for specific products showing up in your local dealerships. That said, you’ve made a friend in Pablo, and can expect to be among the first to know when that information is available.

Crash Test Dummies and Safety Ads
Our new ad campaign prompted this question from gottagetahemi:
“Overall, the ads are great. However, the ones with the crash test dummy several people I know found upsetting. They fell, and I agree, that the crash test dummy is not a sign of safety, but instead a reminder of accidents. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be reminded about bodies flying forward and backward in a car seat while test driving a new Grand Caravan.”
Interesting. The marketing folks appreciated hearing this opinion. They say the concept of the commercial in question was received very well by the people who watched it in development. And since then, it’s gotten a good response from people after the release. But they will take your thoughts under advisement and are monitoring it as the ad campaign continues. For what it’s worth…there’s no question the new Grand Caravan is among the best crash-tested vehicles on the road as it received NHSTA’s Five-Star rating, as described in this past post. — RLD

A Note on Commenting
Recently, we had to pull a comment from a reader regarding the charity auction of the #2 Challenger. Indeed, the reader’s comment was decidedly negative about the sale price and the implications on average people trying to buy a Challenger in the future. But this isn’t why the comment was taken down.
The reader had used a term that our staff deemed offensive. And our attempts to contact the reader and explain went unreturned. But let us take the time right now to point you to our user policies available in the top right corner of this blog and underline the fact that we certainly welcome your comments, both complimentary and critical. Just keep it clean so we can safely let others read your thoughts. We value your thoughts here on Red Letter above pretty much everything…although getting to see the production Challenger the other day was pretty cool, but more on that in a few days. –RLD

Where can I go to track the whole proccesse of my 08 challenger. The dodge web site is ok but I’d like to track it thru the transit and everything. my last 8 vin numbers are 8H302159. Maybe you could tell me what my status is. I heard it was in D1 but I’m not sure if thats correct because I talked to a guy from dodge and he said it will be in shipping 6/25/08.
Would love to know more. Thanks
If dodge needs to make a great car they are on the right track as long as the stats are (right), they are in despret need of muscle beside the viper that only a small precentage can afford anyway.Dont get me wrong what they say is true,if you have to know how much something cost you probably cant afford it anyway, but in a competitve market like today the average person cant go out and drop that kind of cash on a Z06,viper,shelby,and so on which I might add I belive that is where a large portion of your buyers will come from. Just remember that you have a very loyal customer base that doesnt live in the upper percent but you can make them feel that way with so little as a car,I myself am awaiting this automobile with great antisapation.my family is also a dodge family I own a 08′6.7L diesel 4 door 4×4 and my wife owns a 04 4 door 4×4 hemi w/6″lift that she loves, and a 05 SRT 10 pickup just for fun. In short be careful how build a price cars the dodge public already loves you for the products that you have put out so I think its about time to return the favor give us something to be proud of.
I have imfo to the fact that their are already 5500 challengers that are already build that are in Canada ready to be shipped. The real dumb thing that I have herd is the fact that all of them are autosticks. I have wated almost (2) years to order my challenger with a 371 and a (6) six speed manual tramsmition not an automatic. What moron came up with this. The people out there have been wating a long time for this car and if they are like me they want manual transmition not an automatic. It seem the 6 speed won’t be offered until model year 2009.That means late summer of fall before we will see them. Whats going on Chyslier. We need some answers
I had a ‘70 Challenger R/T 383 Magnum, Black with white top, grey interior from ‘69 to ‘73. Gave it to my Mom to use when I went to ‘Nam (little old lady from American Fork, so to speak). Sold it to get married. Should have kept the car. I’ll have the first ‘08 Challenger on my block/in my neighborhood/in my town/IN MY FREAKIN’ STATE!

This car is not a want for me its a need as my wife would put it.
I have been a Mopar head my entire life. The car I miss the most is my 1970 Cuda 340 convertible. As a kid in high school I restored this car from the ground up in my back yard. By the time I was a Sr. in High School I had the hottest ride in school. Dam I wish many times I had never sold that car. The photo of it still hangs over my desk in my office to this day.
Through out my entire career I have worked in some capacity around cars as its just my passion. I had a Custom Stereo Shop when I was in my 20’s and now in my early 40’s I have own an internet business geared around buying cars. www.NewAutoSeeker.com
I want this new Dodge Challenger so bad I can taste it. However, I still have many questions floating around in my head like many of the other posters on here.
How much is it going to cost for various models?
Are the dealers going to add a bunch of over inflated markup profit? I can’t stand it when they do this? Just not right?
Is there going to be a convertible version?
I have heard rumors that Chrysler may produce a Cuda version possibly a year later? That would be my preference if it is really going to happen. If not I will take the twin brother 2008 Challenger!
I want the Big Hemi as big as I can get!!!!
How difficult will it be to get the first ones and will the dashes be numbered?
I just have to much going on in my head since I learned about this car I just want to drive this dang car NOW!
Can’t weight,
Gary
From what I have read so far…What are our options??? C’mon Guys!!! Many of us on this blog are dedicated to the cause…we love MOPARS!!!! I myself would pay up to $35k but not a dime more…I wan’t one so bad I can taste it…my wife just laughs at me but I had one years ago and I regret the day I sold it. Please make this a car of options and listen to the masses…make it the way we wan’t it and not what you’d like us to have. BTW…make the Charger a 2 door.
a
Have a 71 demon and will consider the challenger if I can get it in White..vanising point style. Please don’t forget the late 60′ and 70’s when a big engine and power outweighted the frilly options of cars that bankers drove,
Hemi and stick shift..manual windows are ok for me…looking forward to finding out options and costs…sublime green would be second choice.
Hey, where you two for the bring back of the Charger. Whoever had final say on that SHOULD BE FIRED. Real Chargers have 2 doors.
Thanks
When will we be able to order a new Challenger?
When will we be able to see what options will be available?
When will we see projected production numbers?
Finally when will we see pricing?
Thanks
I’ve been a MoPar guy for 60 years, I’ve got a 1958 Plymouth…440, 4 speed…I call it the FIRST GTX. I’ve seen it all…the glory years of 1962 to 1972 (the last HEMI),and the crap of the 80’s and 90’s. We waited for GENERATIONS for Mopar to get ANY kind of ZING at all. We got Viper… at $80,000…and Prowler with a little V-6.What kind of choise is that??? Enter the Charger…WHAT KIND OF EURO-CRAP IS THIS ??? You should have called it a Coronet or a TAXI !! Chargers DON’T have 4 DOORS. By the way, don’t you people know it’s CHEAPER to build a 2 door than a 4 door??? But I gotta give it to you with the Challenger…you FINALLY did it right. Now, we have a 347 (5.7 L.), 392, and 426 power…but wait…ONLY an AUTOMATIC slushbox? Do it RIGHT with a 5 or 6 speed MANUAL gearbox. Don”t let me down AGAIN !!
2008 CHALLENGER RT/STR/RT500HP…I HAVE A 300 SRT STILL WANT ALITTLE MORE HP 500+ 526 HEMI SOUNDS GOOD . REAR WHEELS WIDE LIKE THE VET..SHAKER HOOD YES..AUTO & 5-6 SPEED..GET IT GOING I WANT NOW ..25-30K..NO I DON’T WANT A FORD MUSTANG 2 V4 .DO IT RIGHT LIKE THE 1970 CHALLENGER…V6 @ 25K . RT HEMI 30K. RT-SRT 38-45K..THEN THE RT-SRT 526 SHAKER.. TO OUT RUN THE ZO6 505 VET &600 HP VIPER..HOW ABOUT 0-60 3.4 QT MILE 11.6 STOCK 3YEAR 36,000 WARRANTY . YES I WILL TAKE …@55-75K CHEAPER THAN THE VET..BUILD IT RIGHT THEY WILL BUY ..
What about a Challenger convertible
Now I’m showing my age, but I had one of the original 64 plymouth hemi’s sportsfury….big block muscle….light up the tires in any gear, but of course the 5 miles per gal was bad even when gas was $ .27 a gallon. I’ve been waiting for Mopar to finally compete again ( other than Viper. I’m also aware that the hemi in this production vehicle will be only 300+ hp…hopefully the engineers at dodge have investigated and will once again consider an option for higher hp availability….lets say 450-500 range….without that…..will the new Challenger truly be the Next Muscle Mopar. Either way….I’m on the list to purchase one. Richard
I’m sick of waiting for this car to come out. I am 37 years old and this is the first car I have ever felt like I HAVE TO HAVE IT! If you can’t make a car available within 6 months of showing it - dont show it! Did you know that the new Camaro is about the same price with a rag top. My heart is still set on this car but I’m starting to lose my patience. You should let people like me drive one around prior to making them available to the public. Wouldn’t that be great advertising. I’m dying to get this car in Orange with black racing stripes. Oh yeah, I’m a 37 yr old WOMAN
and I’m gonna look hot in this car!
Autumn Bronze - You have to have that classy 1973 color Autumn Bronze that is on my 73 ‘Cuda - Gotta have it
My first car was a 84 shelby charger… dad blew the engine and then gave it to me, but i would sit in it and pretend to race it. i’d even sleep in it for short periods of time. the viper came out and that became my dream mistress, however i’d never be able to afford one. the second i heard about the challenger i drooled. now my collection of hot wheels has stopped to strictly collect any new challenger model i can find. i want a real one, but i’m not going to trade in my ram after all the work i’ve put into building it just to possibly afford financing one and having to still live at home single in order to survive. DON’T do the srt8 nonsense. give options for everything. let somebody be able to put a 6.4 in a base model without having to get a bluetooth capable, gps ready, infinity sound system equipped, cool and heated leather seats optioned, LED vanity mirrored SRT8. look at all the old challengers. except for the ones trying to keep originals original, its all about making it their own. I want it to shake the ground without having to worry about putting wrinkles in leather or sand on SRT8 stamped floor mats. let me buy the car i want, not the car i’m stuck with buying.
Black Metallic with a White Hard Top and White leather Interior!!!!
well im a 17 year old girl and i just love muscle cars and this would be my dream so my ? is when will it come out on the market so i can start saving up for it b/c it looks pricy
Finally, word specs in pricing… This will really be a day to be thankful..
Simply put, I wish for the option for the 6.1 in the base car. I am not really interested in all the extras that the SRT (or even the R/T) have in just to get the big motor.
I just want the plain-Jane car with the ability to get the 6.1 & 6-speed manual (& necessary drive-line/suspension).
I too am concerned about the price and what options will be available. 6.1,6.4, 500 HP, 6 speed manual, convertible, shaker hood, rear spoiler or even a Super Bird spoiler would be awesome. Think about it. What a domination to see a Super Bird spoiler in your town! Ford, park your pony. Chevy, get a pacemaker. Sold my ‘70 Challenger and ‘71 Duster 340 car to by a Top Banana Daytona Charger. A bit disappointed to not get a 6.1, a 2 door or a convertible but still love the car. First NEW car in 32 years!! Wanted a Viper when they came out but could not afford one. Now the kids are gone and I’m 55. Made my wife a motorhead. She can identify almost any car and knows engines. Been a Mopar fan for 45 years.—from ‘57 Ply to ‘65 Ply. ‘63 Dodge, ‘71 Charger, ‘70 Challenger, ‘71 Duster, ‘65 426 Wedge Ply. Willing to sell off part of my collection for the right options, price, HP, convertible, with the new Challenger–Just to beat the socks off the Ford and Chevy guys. Please, let’s dominate the streets again and show the Fords where to park the pony and put the heartbeat of Chevy into a heart attack.
Please bare with me as my statement may be a little long.
I started off driving mopar when I was 16 (1990 Eagle Talon 4 cylinder) later graduated to the 95 Chrysler Sebring…back then I asked why could they just offer these in at least v6 options without offering a 4 cylinder in the first place?
This is the same question I’m asking today…why make everyone suffer because you don’t want to offer 3 separate versions of a v8 that people can afford? Why bother with v6 engines in any thing but your lower level vehicles? The Charger, Magnum, and Challenger all should have 3 options only…v8, v8 Hemi, SRT v8 dual output…I don’t know but give the people a real reason to empty out their pockets! To put it as simply as possible, if you put a bowl of dirty water in front of a person who is thirsty and tell them to drink…they do it but will hate you! Give that same person clean clear water he will thank you and return the favor…and do business with you in the future!
All I’m asking is that you not even give us the option of drinking dirty water here MOPAR!!! Give the average income maker in this country a chance to be loyal to a company again…give us V8 only option cars…V6 only option cars…and so on! Don’t give us the same car in V6 and V8 options! GIVE US LIFE…GIVE US A REASON TO GIVE YOU A YEARS WORTH OF OUR PAY!!! TAKE A STEP TOWARDS THE PEOPLE…GRAB LIFE BY THE HORNS!
I agree that ma Mopar is being a bit too secretive for me. As soon as I saw the concept I knew I needed one. I got permission from the wife and rounded up the money. I have tried 3 times to put a deposit on one of the first ones. I tried to get a relationship with the local dealer. They just won\’t keep me informed. I can only get info from odd places and that is pretty unreliable. I understand if you don\’t have specs yet, but a press release about what you do know would help. The first confirmation I got that it would be built was from some contest to win one.
I drive a Subaru WRX right now, and I am definitely switching to a Challenger, but it is frustrating that the dealer won\’t work with me and neither will the factory. I am trying to give you money here.
My vote if for a convertible, 6 speed, with the 500 HP Hemi that one of the magazines mentioned, but I\’ll take what I can get as long as it forcibly stomps my old WRX. Sub-lime would be the perfect color.
Back in 1970 I was the proud owner of a Plum Crazy Challenger, when I was young, wild & crazy. Now I’m not so young, wild (still crazy) & would jump at the chance to get another Plum Crazy Challenger! I paid $3,500.00 for mine - do you think it might be a little more?????
Wow. lot’s of folks tossing around numbers like 30K to 40K as affordable. Not many people around me think $600/mo for a single car is an easy thing to swing. Please keep a version of this car at a price point that makes it affordable to someone who makes 40K a year - even if you have to offer a v6 stripped down version.
Part of what you’re selling is the dream. A guy may end up driving the low horse version, but he’ll be hearing 500 HP in his head. Look at the Mustang.
I’ve been a life long Pontiac nut, but thought GM really missed the mark with the uninspired GTO econo-box looking thing. Good to see Dodge is on the right track.
My (pipe)dream: make a convertible that seats 5 and will keep me from seriously considering a used Z06 or Firehawk TA (yes, I know they seat 2 and 4, but I’ve got 3 kids and the trunk is not “optional seating”)
Dream two: make a true sleeper. Imagine one of these puppies in a relatively plain color and nutzo go-fast options (think 1LE and Police Package TAs/Camaros)
Can we purchase the New Challenger from the factory, and bypass the Greedy Dealer’s?
This is a car that could make me trade in my Vette!
One problem, no stats. 4 months to go until it goes to the showroom and Dodge cannot give the public some numbers?
There should be a whole line up as to what is available for the Charger & you guys should be taking orders on it.
Am eagerly awaiting availability of the Challenger. My wife and I presently own a 98 Ram 1500 and an 06 Carger R/T. I agree with most all comments regarding prices on this car. A base price around 22K with a V6, working the way up to an SRT 6.1 V8 for less than 35K. This car is also dying to be a ragtop as a 3K option. I will buy this car in R/T or SRT trim if the price is right. Not only can I not afford it, giving it the price of a vette takes the whole idea of the car and turns it into a fast grab for cash from the MFG. I LOVE MY DODGES. I WON’T BUY GM UNLESS FIREBIRD RETURNS WITH CAMARO. LET’S SEE IF CORPORATE ACTUALLY PAYS ATTENTION, OR IF THEIR GREED HELPS BRING THE U.S. AUTO INDUSTRY UNDER.
well first of all if you know how to shop you get a really good deal. you can get about 10,000 off a car just by knowing what you are doing.Well im getting one for my graduation gift. thinking about placing 10,000 when they want 0 down type sale. then move on from there i can proably get it for 26 grand.( and its possible my cousin got a brand new fully loaded altima for 21,000. steal right. it would have cost him a good 38,000.im going to get mine from the Chopper himself.i want the R/T because i origianly was going to place the engine that is in the concept in a 70′ challeger. and that reason ofcoarse was the only reason i was going until i saw that cool tachometer. never seen anything like that before , it should be kept in the final.because its the only reason i would get a manual.color has to be orange, or silver. And i doubt this car will go for over 40,000.if it wants to compete with chevy and ford. there cars start at 24-26,000 at MRSP. My sister got a mustang fully loaded for 20,000.if you want a cheaper car, buy it off the lot. custom orders you can not go below mrsp, unless their is a sale.
Is there a “gag” order or some kind of info. blackout with the Challenger? You’d think that they are building somekind OF “Black” project for the military.Does Dodge want to sell cars or not? Their competitor has introduced the new Camaro with plenty of info about eng size, ball-park pricing and a convt. in 2010. I don’t know what they(Dodge) are thinking.
Anyhow, I too just want to know eng. size/specs, pricing range, and possible convertible down the road. Is that too much to ask for….?
I have the ssame questions as everyone else:
Price, Units, etc….. I believe if Dodge prices this vehicle, as a niche vehicle, as Pontiac did with the GTO, it will not sell. If it is priced outlandishly, I will be at my Chevrolet dealer, putting a dowwn payment on a new Camaro( I like both cars).
i have an ‘06 charger daytona top banana and i love it. now, i am ready for my challenger srt8.
If Dodge prices this thing up in the 50-60 range, I’ll buy a Chopped up classic Challenger and rebuild it myself. It might cost a little more, but if you are spending that much, I’d go classic. They keep this thing in the low 30’s for a power version of it, then Dodge might actually have a prayer in the domestic muscle car market competition.
I am excited about the next guy about the Challenger, but lets hope they don’t botch it like they did the Charger. If Feb rolls around and it has 4 doors, I don’t know what I’ll do. Buy a Ford I guess. (shudders)
I owned a 70 Hemi Challenger R/T once, what happened? Got married had kids car went Bye, Bye. Single again, kids grown. I want this car. Now! And I want it in Black! You Detroit meatheads have a chance to make Dodge a name to respect again with the average gearheads. DON’T BLOW IT!! Temper the GREED!!!!
Face it people, there’s one of two things that are going to happen - either Dodge is going to price the Challenger to compete with the new Camaro & Mustang, or they’re going to treat it like a niche vehicle like the Viper. If they’re serious about competing in the new ‘Pony car wars’, and want to sell vehicles, they’ll price it accordingly, otherwise, I’m sorry - I’m taking my business to my local Ford or Chevy dealer. There ain’t no way I’m paying $40 - $50k for a car, even one as nice as the Challenger.
GO TOO LEFTLANENEWS FOR SOME ANSEWERS
I too can’t wait for some answers. I almost purchased an ‘07 Charger, but once I heard the Challenger was coming, I said “Whoa, Nelly!”. I am glad to see that these “muscle” cars are coming back, but I hope that the rumors are not true too about dealer mark-ups and low production numbers. I drive a Saturn ION right now and can’t wait to get into a REAL car!
I am an optimist and am hoping that the rumors are not true. I guess we just have to wait it out, but the waiting is KILLING me!
Price? Hints?
I keep seeing the number “40k” and I’m sorry, but that is ‘Vette and 330i territory. I was hoping this car would be an alternative to the Mustang, thats the only way I can see it selling in large numbers.
20k V6, 25-28k V8, and then a +32k top end car.
But if pricing is starting at 30-40k. Forget it.
I thought this was a place for answeres, so far all i see is questions!! I too would love to own a 6.1 hemi challenger witha 6 speed manual transmission as shown in the concept vehicle. Hopefully i and other working class americans will not be priced out of owning a CHALLENGER. DODGE MADE ALOT OF MONEY IN THE 60′S AND 70′S SELING CARS TO THE WORKING CLASS AND COULD DO THE SAME NOW IF THEY LOOK AT HE THE BIG PICTURE AND DON’T DECIDE TO PRICE IT SO OWNLY VIPER OWNERS CAN ADD THE CAR TO THEIR COLLECTION. SO WHAT ITS IT GOING TO BE DODGE A CAR FOR THE MASSES OR ANOTHER TOY FOR THE MILLIONAIRES TO ADD TO THIER COLLECTION??
I know the Challenger debuts in February, but
when can dealers take orders? Thanks, Terry
I thought this was a place for answers…so far I see a lot of the same questions and no answers. Production #’s and cost are two of the most frequently asked…when will we know the answers to these questions or do we have to wait until Spring ‘08? Also will the 392 be offered as an option and will the SRT 8 be available right away or later in ‘08?
Bring it over to England!! You think you pay high prices for gas! We deserve the Challenger in Blighty, what else is there in its class??
Will you offer a shaker hood w/ the Hemi?
Dear Dodge,
I agree with the majority of comments here about the pricing. I sure hope the dealers do not start trying to rape buyers just because the demand is high. The fact is, there are a number of other alternatives available now such as the new Camero, Mustang, GTO, Corvette, etc.
I am hoping that you create options such as the SRT-8 (Same as the Charger for around 40k) as well as an SRT-10 Option (for around 60k-80k)
GIVE US OPTIONS!
Please listen to your loyal customers! I own a Durango and Magnum and have been saving for this new Challenger since I saw the Concept Car at the Car Show.
Sincerely,
Dodge Customer and (Hopefully new Challenger Owner!)
MOPAR TO THE PEOPLE
I think its time the auto makers earn the trust of the people. Make this car affordable! This car is what your company has dreamed of, don’t let the greedy dealers scare MOPAR lovers away with high prices. We already have high gas prices, and high insurance prices. Make Dodge the leader again, and forever!!!
I too would love to purchase an 08′ Challenger, but $40k would have to be the limit. I know one thing, if the dealers are allowed to mark-up this vehicle to the $50-60k range, it will sour many potential buyers, including myself towards ANY Dodge or American made car! We hear them crying how ‘things are tough’ and if they show greediness on this sharp, hot vehicle, they (Dodge) will pay more by losing potential customers in the future. I am waiting for this vehicle, and if I am ’squeezed’ out of my dream car, I will gladly hop to my local Toyota dealer and settle back into reality.
I was the owner of a 1970 cuda that I wish I had never sold 440-6 pac Tor red, you just took my breath away when I saw the add, I WILL GET ONE, even at 63
I’m a life-long Mopar fan living in Japan, and have my sights set on the new Challenger. The local Chrysler dealer has assured me that the Challenger will be available here in Japan, but he has no idea when. He also thinks the price here in Japan will be around $60,000 USD…ouch. Additionally, the dealer expects the initial shipment of Challengers to be around 50 cars…similar to how Chargers are making it over here now. Not sure if we can specifically order the options we want…it may be a case of simply choosing what’s closest out of the cars that are delivered. Luckily, most Japanese enthusiasts like fully-optioned cars, so I shouldn’t have too much trouble grabbing an unwanted no-frills 6.1 Hemi screamer. Of course, knowing that the locals like a full load of options, the dealers might not bring over any bare-bones cars! We’ll see…Anyway, this is the Japanese Challenger info as I know it from the local dealer…can anything be confirmed ot denied? Thanks
I have the same question as most that is still unanswered, how many of each model (base,rt,srt). What is the production number, we’d all like to know our odds of getting one without paying 10k over sticker.
My Challenger dream car order form would read. 6.1 Hemi HO, manual trans. Delete radio and anything else that tookaway from the joy of the drive. It would also have an exaust note that was one of a kind that made me grin whenever it started or left a light. Color would be blue. Price under $30,000.
how bout getting the challenger into the Rolex Sports Car Series? When they decided that the Viper was too powerful and banned it… i cried… and when it was regulated so heavily in Grand Am so that everything else could keep up… i cried… What’s the chance that a team has already been started possibly factory sponsored like the Viper GTS-Rs? Why not put the Challenger on the track, bring back Dodge’s/Mopar’s name to the series as winners… and for crying out loud get the GXP-R’s (that dont even exist in real life to a consumer but still race in a factory class?) to put up or shut up?
I heard the first Challenger model to be released is gonna be the SRT with 6.1L HEMI… what concerns me is I heard that you’re gonna mate the engine to the 5-speed auto-tranny, why not a viper-sourced 6-speed manual?? I think the manual would be faster, cheaper and lighter. Secondly, people are expecting to pay $30K-$40K for the car, although I know Coupe cars are usually more expensive than the Sedans but Why not price it for $30K-$35K considering it’s sharing most the parts from the LX platform and it’s usinf a shorter platform (LY)?? Thirdly, I hate to see the dealers pushin me away from buyin the cars because of thier high mark-up. I know it’s the dealers’ right but I hope you would control somehow.
Will this car have a Shaker Hood option? What about a Sun Roof?
I saw the challenger at my state fair and fell in love…my only question is…How much?
Will Dodge be offering a convertible Challenger in the near future to combat the Camaro and Mustang?
Will they be other colors available? Like jet-black!
Will the Challenger be available in all markets in February, specifically, the east coast?
Do you know if there will be sufficient production so as to have a good selection when the time comes.
Well guys I saw a brand new 08 challenger driving up I 15 Ca.
on 10/10/07 on my way to work. it was covered up in the back and front and she was all black with Mich. Plates
I all most had a wrack trying to get close to her…
my eyes were wide open but I could not believe them
My dream car right beside me. I take mine in white with
black inter. like the movie Vanishing Point. Thanks
I have never bought a new car in my life. I started saving for this the moment I saw it. Please don’t make me pay 45 grand for an R/T!!!!
I heard in november you can order a SRT8 CHALLENGER how about front and rear spoilers
will the srt8 be in plum crazy have nav or sun roof , 6 speed trans price shoud be no more then a Shelby 500 Mustang is a 6.4 Hemi going to be made?
I sincerely hope that the Hemi V-8 Challenger is affordable and in line with the Mustang. The biggest mistake Chrysler can make is to overprice the car!
Mopar or no car since I was 13 years old, I will be 43 tomorrow. Yep this challenger looks great and I am sure that it drives great. I am just thinking about when I am at the local drag strip (every friday night) and I see a ton of mustangs. These guys can go to Ford and buy a stripped down, no back seat mustang and bracket race the thing all night. I love the leather seats and the power windows but it is just too expensive for these kids who just want to burn rubber. You can get a mustang V8 stick for about 24k new. I feel if you offer a base model with the hemi you will get these kids to be life long mopar supporters like me. This car needs to be available both ways.
Look at the Pontiac GTO. the car is fast (however GM really missed out by not even resembling the real GTO)but the car only came loaded. TOO EXPENSIVE. You can still buy a 2005 GTO new.
I have been a Mopar guy since the late 60’s and I couldn’t agree more with gmfan. This is the car we’ve been waiting for, but please lets not make it just for guys that are 5′ - 8″. I would trade all of the retro color options for 39 inches of front seat headroom! Please don’t make me buy that Chevy.
I think your ad campaign for the Challenger will be a big driver in how many units are sold to the non-core Dodge fans. I’m not talking about TV and magazine articles. I’m talking more creative ideas. For example, GM getting the new Camaro in the Transformers movie was huge! People are talking about the movie, buying the toys, etc. You guys need to do some out-of-the-box things like that. Besides die-cast cars, I can’t even find any merchandise for the new Challenger. The Camaro was later to the scene than the Challenger and is already developing a bigger presence in the marketplace. The inclusion of the Challenger concept in the Need for Speed-Carbon video game was great, but reaches a more limited audience. Has there been any talk about bringing back the performance clinics/traveling road shows like you had in the 60s/70s with people like Dick Landy? I think that would reach a lot of new potential customers, plus make your existing customers very happy!
Could you please tell a British fan who would dearly love to be the proud owner of a beautiful Dodge Challenger in the outstanding orange of the concept car with the legendary hemi V8 hiding under its black stripped bonnet? A. will this vehicle be coming to our side of the atlantic? B. If the answer is yes when? C. And how much in sterling is it likely to cost to buy one?
ok im back im sorry maybe it was a cheap shot but come on you know what im saying you guys being dodge have to protect the buyer you know? We’re all scared of mark-ups and who wants another cobra gtr500 blah blah blah let’s show ‘em what’s up dodge like the other guy said their really are a lot of mopar heads me including. Gm who? IM a true fan from day one but don’t let us down here. This is your chance to really put an exclamation mark on the industry don’t drop the ball. Oh yeah and the convertible PLEASE!!! WITH HUGS AND KISSES. ME.
life long GM man here.
build me a challenger that looks identical to the concept, is available in retro colors, has the 6 speed viper manual transmission in it, and is available in special high performance editions (like a cuda with a shaker and gills as an example), and is priced in the 30-40k range as predicted, and ill jump ship from GM faster than you can say NOW. id love to see it made on US soil, but i would settle for canada as long as the other options are met! now to my specific question - i want to know if there will be a high performance version of the challenger (like the charger super bee as an example) and how long it might take for that to be released after the standard challenger goes into production?
I too am very concerned about the rumor of low production numbers of the Challenger. As a die hard Mopar guy (I currently own a 1928 Plymouth 2dr sedan, 1967 Barracuda, 1968 Hemi barracuda and a 2007 Dodge Charger) I am tired of seeing all the newer mustangs and believe Chrysler really needs to consider big production numbers. As we all know a lot of people want the new Challenger. So come on guys build lots, keep the price low (competitive with the rustang) and lets show Ford and Chevy that there are a lot of Mopar lovers. I want a new Challenger as much as the next guy but the price has to be competitive with the Rustang and the soon to come new Comaro. Which by the way I think both are ugly and the Challenger truely hit the mark on retro. When will pricing, production numbers and ordering options be available?
Thanks
Three things realy concern me about the comming Challenger. 1. The rumors of a low production. You guys know that there are a whole lot of people like me just waiting to punce on the Challenger right? 2. Big Dealer mark ups. You guys do relize that npmatter how much we want the Challenger we can’t get it if we cant aford it. I think some of the magazines original cost estimites of b/n $30,000-$40,000 are acceptable, but what happens if all the dealers put a 200% mark up on that thats way too much it’ll kill the car!!! 3. Most importaintly you guys will offer it with a Maual transmision won’t you? I mean what is the point of buying a modern day Mucle car if you can’t truly enjoy driving it? I mean lets face it it’s just more fun with a stick!
How much will the challenger 6.1 6 speed
weigh ?
