A Few Words on Building a Winning NASCAR Team…

Chip Ganassi has done it again… this time adding a Scottish accent to his NASCAR Race Team line-up. He now has the most international driver line-up in the sport. Last Wednesday, October 3rd, Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced that the reigning Indianapolis 500 and Indy Car Series Champion, Dario Franchitti has signed a multi-year deal to compete in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Last year, Chip Ganassi shocked the racing community by announcing that Juan Pablo Montoya, a native of Colombia and Formula One driver, would be joining his NASCAR team for the 2007 race season. He was the first regular Formula One driver to join the NASCAR ranks on a full-time basis.
Dario will take over the driving duties of the No. 40 Dodge Avenger (currently driven by David Stremme). He joins Juan Pablo Montoya, the driver of the No. 42 Dodge Charger/Avenger and Reed Sorenson, the driver of the No. 41 Target Dodge Charger/Avenger.
At Dodge we are happy to know that we’ve got another proven champion to add to our portfolio of great Dodge drivers. We are applauding Chip for being so innovative. NASCAR is an extremely competitive sport – we want to WIN, Chip Ganassi wants to WIN, his team wants to WIN! When good drivers are available, he takes them. We like this because he [Chip] is well on his way to building a winning Dodge team.
We are looking forward to another exciting NASCAR season. See you in Victory Lane!
For updates on this weekend’s action, where Kurt Busch started at Talladega Superspeedway in 41st position, then raced the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Avenger to a seventh-place finish, moving Busch up two positions in the “Chase for the Nextel Cup” standings to 7th, please visit our Dodge Motorsports homepage by clicking here.

Looks Like Ganassi will have a pretty good team Next year in the Sprint Cup. I still think that his best years were with Jamie McMurray, Sterling Marlin, and Casey Mears though. hope they do well in 08 as well as the Other Dodge drivers like Kasey Kahne, Elliot Sadler, and Ryan Newman.
My wife and I met Dario after the Detroit GP this year and he’s a good guy for sure. His abilities in open wheel cars is proven but we’ll have to see about this stock car thing. Totally different type of car (4500lbs) and characteristics.
Jacques Villeneuve tried his hand at NASCAR this past weekend and probably could consider it successful. He caused a crash in truck series but finished 21st on the lead lap in the Cup series.
The open wheel invasion to NASCAR has begun! It’s all about the money!
