Despite significant setbacks, our very own Kurt Busch lead Dodge to the winner’s circle this past Sunday with his first place finish at the Kobalt Tools 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Marking his 21st victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Busch’s well-deserved win catapulted him from 19th to 10th in the driver point standings, just 142 behind the leader.
Congratulations to Busch and Team Penske for an impressive performance and nabbing another win for Dodge!
In 1953, Dodge received its first V8 engine when the Red Ram HEMI® hit production. Measuring just 241 inches and churning out 140-horsepower, the Red Ram HEMI® was one of Dodge’s smallest offerings at the time but it was also one of the most impressive. During its inaugural year, the Red Ram HEMI® dominated the Bonneville Salt Flats from the engine bay of a ‘53 Dodge Coronet, setting over 100 land speed records.
Thanks to this proven ability to perform and its compact size, the Red Ram HEMI® gained an almost instant popularity with enthusiasts and was affectionately dubbed the “baby” HEMI®. Today, this crucial piece of Dodge history remains a favorite amongst hot rodders and restoration pros alike and is still capable of killing the competition.
In Brazos Valley, Texas, our own Ralph Gilles struck terror in the hearts of every wannabe racer within earshot when he took the limited edition Dodge Viper ACR-X – and all 640 of its horses – thundering around the Texas World Speedway. Purportedly prepping the beast for its limited production run, Gilles enthusiastically spoke to local reporters about the test laps, generating some excitement (on our ends, too) for the ACR-X’s impending launch.
Of course (even at the risk of sounding like Lavar Burton) don’t take our word for it. Hit the jump to check out video footage of our CEO in action, ripping up some Texas asphalt.
Not all of us are lucky enough to own a track-spec Viper. So, while our hearts (and our right feet) may pine for a screaming V10 pumping out enough horsepower to peel the skin off our faces, our rational minds know better. As much as we may wish it otherwise, a high-res screensaver is the closest we’re likely to come to experiencing the track-pounding fury of the Dodge Viper ACR-X, which means we’re forced to live vicariously through the lucky stiffs over at Viper Headquarters. Fortunately, the folks at Viper HQ are only too happy to feed our insatiable appetite for all things fast and loud, which means we’re never short on exclusive Viper vids.
If you share our need for speed (sorry, couldn’t resist) and have a few minutes to kill, check out exclusive footage of the ACR-X laying some rubber at the Winterfest Sebring Event.

Thanks to its utilitarian, easy-to-clean interior and general CUV capabilities, the 2010 Dodge Journey may now add another distinction to its list of accolades: man’s best ride for man’s best friend. During the Pet Safe Choice Awards at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show this year, both the Dodge Journey and the 2010 Chrysler Town and Country were bequeathed the Bark Buckle UP 2010 Pet Safe Choice Award for pet-friendly vehicles.
“Most people don’t think about it, but in only a 35 mph accident with a 60-pound pet it becomes a 2,700 pound projectile,” said Bark Buckle UP founder Pet Safety Lady Christina Selter. “This will injure the pet, passengers, driver or the pet may escape the vehicle and cause a second accident or become agitated and bite the first responder that is on scene doing their job.” Thus, Bark Buckle UP considered a variety of non-traditional factors when evaluating each vehicle, including how easily a pet can navigate in, out, and around the vehicle and how pet-friendly (read: stain-resistant) the interior surfaces were. This week from the archives, we’re taking you back to one of the most important moments in Dodge history: the birth of the Viper.
Before the sinister snake hit the production circuit in 1992, it debuted at the 1989 North American International Auto Show as a purely conceptual roadster. At the time of the unveiling, Dodge had no intention of bringing the Viper R/T 10 concept to production, but the immediately favorable response it received from both the media and the public alike quickly changed their minds. Just three short years after its inaugural appearance, the venomous Viper as we know it today hit the streets, kicking off a decades-long reign as king of the American track.
After the 2009 Challenger Drag Pak enjoyed such a warm welcome from enthusiasts, Mopar elected to kick off the new year by giving hardcore drag racers more of what they love with the 2010 Challenger Drag Pak. Outfitted with a 6.1L HEMI V8 (can be configured for a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission), the 2010 Drag Pak weighs in at roughly 1,000 pounds less than its street-legal counterpart and features enough mods to blow your doors off (on the track, of course).
Essentially a Challenger SRT8 on the juice, the Drag Pak features a composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, Viper-style front seats, polycarbonate door windows, a light-weight cooling module with electric fan, manual rack-and-pinion steering, a special cable-operated deck-lid release, special lightweight front-brake assemblies and special cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.
In an effort to give loyal Challenger fans even more of an opportunity to personalize their rides, Dodge is expanding their already sizable list of factory options with the addition of the Red “Hood to Fender” stripe. Available exclusively on Challenger R/T models finished in Brilliant Black or Bright White, the fierce accent is a fitting introduction to the raw, throaty power under the hood.
The new accessory is available for order now from your local Dodge dealership and will officially hit the streets in April.
I’m Gone is a call out to the confident Charger-driving women out there who know how to burn rubber. It turns the classic break-up cliché on its head, giving a nod to the ladies for once. It’s a nod to the mystery and power of a strong woman– mysterious, cool, in-control and not willing to settle.
